Lindsay Hassett Oval

The Lindsay Hassett Oval at Albert Park (Oval 11), is located near the Fraser Street Light Rail stop and is bounded by Albert Park's Aughtie Drive on the north-east side and Albert Park's Western Bike Path on south-west side. Many of the ovals around Albert Park Lake are named after sports stars and the Lindsay Hassett Oval is one of these. This oval is named after the cricketer, Lindsay Hassett MBE, who played for Victoria and Australia.The Lindsay Hassett Oval is the home ground of the South Melbourne Districts Football Club, nicknamed the Bloods. It's also used for junior sports such as Junior Cricket and during the week for other outdoor activities including dog walking and training.The oval is well maintained but there some negatives. As is with many other sports grounds in the Albert Park Reserve, there isn't really any seating provided or many shaded areas around this oval. So you have to self prepare for these.Also, there is only limited parking at the oval itself and while roadside parking is available, it can be difficult to find a spot during busy times when events are also taking place at the other adjacent sports grounds. You also need to be aware that parking fees apply to all marked bays and roadside parking throughout Albert Park. While all profits raised from parking are put back into Albert Park, which is a good thing, another option might be to park along Canterbury Road opposite Fraser Street, which is only a few minutes away, and walk across the Light Rail.
