Mercure Kangaroo Island Lodge

The hotel locks up at 9pm and reopens at 8am. Don't know if this is the way things work in Australia or if this is post-Covid lack of employees.Room was clean and the bed excellent. Quiet!They had recently updated their wifi (just like the hotel I stayed at in Adelaide) and it didn't work in the room so had to go into the main part of the hotel...which closed at 9pm.Breakfast service was slow -- took over 10 minutes to take my order and another 20+ to get the simple order. And the restaurant was only partially full. So if you're going on a tour or have travel plans, best to go early. Dinner was barely decent. First night had crab linguine and the crab was, ahem, old. Second night I can't even remember what I had it was so non-memorable.I expect more given the price I payed.

Best service!! The food was perfect!! The staff were so friendly and helpful. Our bed ..very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay, look forward t returning!!

Expensive for what you get, not obvious where the money is being spent. Rooms are nice and kitchenette is decent, nothing special. Facilities are not great, pool leaves blue paint all over you and the pool table is falling apart. No other extras besides those (no sauna, spa etc.,). Also we had two incidents where it seemed like people had entered our room when we hadn’t ordered a room service. Restaurant is pricey and not a great selection.

Nice and comfortable stay. The hotel is a bit secluded so make sure you plan your meals. We appreciate the wine bottle in our room. Will definitely come back.

We were very happy with our room. Not the most modern but for kangaroo island quite comfy.We did a walk at night and saw lots of nightlife, as we found a hotel flyer with a recommended route by coincidence. They should tell you about that during check in.

Being local, I was looking forward to dining here as well as using the pool which is offered up to locals if they buy off the bar snack menu. This is a great initiative however, ridiculously expensive for what you get. I don’t mind spending money for good quality food especially with the added bonus of using the pool however this was merely a pub feed. Even with the local’s discount I’d still be reluctant to go here again. They’ve done a lovely job at renovating, it’s just a shame it felt really uninviting.

Nice and quiet hotel in American River. The hotel is fairly secluded and there are not many amenities nearby, so plan ahead. The restaurant is quite nice, be sure to make a booking even if it doesn’t look crowded. We also appreciated the bottle of wine in our room.

Hotel is nice and staff are lovely but with breakfast not being available until after 7:30am we were starting our days very late and had to push back a few things that were booked earlier in the day to ensure there was time for breakfast. Breakfast is restaurant style with 5 options to order from. Maybe a continental breakfast that is available a little earlier would be helpful for people wanting a quicker cheaper options

Generally the hotel was fine across the board. For the most part I spent nearly all of my time touring the island so I was only at the hotel for very limited periods.Main thing to point out is there's not much in local walking area for food stores, so best to come prepared with additional snacks/food if you're not planning to use the restaurant or bar menu options.The room was getting to the point of feeling a bit outdated and needing a bit of refurbishment/overhaul. Still it got the job done and was functional, just nothing special. Lots of small minor quirks like power sockets not being overly close to the bed etc. Mattress was surprisingly quite comfortable though.Bathroom same deal with being standard and functional. Water pressure was good.Restaurant was much better than I was expecting for the token hotel dining option. Interesting enough menus. Even their separate bar menu was actually surprisingly decent. Prices were kind of to be expected due to location, but didn't feel overly unreasonable compared to some major cities even. Staff were helpful and friendly. A few seemed new but were clearly doing their best with minor language barrier.Meals came out in reasonable amounts of time for dinner and breakfast compared to the amount of people in the restaurant etc.Didn't use the pool or any other facilities to comment on. From a general glance they seemed fine by all accounts but showing some age.I think it's really a matter of expectations compared against a city 4 star hotel. However this hotel is a safe option for a short stay.
