The univ recreation centre has really great facilities...a beautiful warm outdoor 50 mtr pool thats not overcrowded & is protected frim the worst weather...a huuuugggeee gym area...the Gold membership pass opens up access to just about everything...including a free 2 hours in the car park...the only pitfall i get stuck on continually is that if you swim alot of laps AND then work out in the gym its tricky to do that within 2 hours sometimes?.Three hours..or even 2.5 hours would make all the difference ...especially for the serious athlete or for those of us who travel from the northern suburbs to use the UOW facilities.Another suggestion is that in a fantastic gym like this, youd think they would also have a sauna? Saunas are great for recovery and for your health. And lastly, why is there no family pass or family discount for those in the community who wish to use these facilities? Its a lot of $ for both mum & dad to have a Gold pass each.If the univ addressed either the free parking period or the family discount i wouldve given it a 5 star rating

Great fitness venue.Pool pros - outdoors and gas heated which is perfect at all times of the year. Cons - not many lanes at peak periods, but this should be expected at any business venue.Gym pros - has heaps of equipment and is a very large gym. Most of the equipment is brand new due to a recent upgrade at the date of this post. One thing I like is the view of the pool, tennis courts and ovals when exercising on the cardio equipment. Cons - doesn't have bumper weights in main gym area.Overall Pros - lots of facilities, staff are helpful and welcoming, long opening times, love the basketball courts, pricing is reasonable. Cons - parking is only good in mornings before 8.30am and after 5pm and weekends as these times are free (sports Hub car park). Can be a little confusing to get to if you are new as the Uni is a mini city in its self. I think this deters a lot of people.Hope this review helps in some way.

The overall facility is great but the gym has been slipping in recent years. Too crowded, not enough dedicated free weight areas, has needed a deadlift/olympic lifting platform for over 10 years. I stopped using the gym here after I could no longer tolerate the wait to bench, squat, and the fact that you basically aren't allowed to deadlift any real weight here.

UOW’s Students deserve access to affordable exercise facilities. UniActive fails to deliver on this with student membership prices almost that of commercial gyms. Opting for higher and higher prices excludes most students from improving their mental and physical health through exercise, which should be the goal of a University gym.

Good instructors, patrons and classes. Friendly place. Have been a regular for years. The main issues preventing 5 stars are parking can be problematic and expensive. Also class coverage out of work hours has decreased since the pandemic so there are a number of classes I can no longer do.

UOW's gym and recreation centre. Friendly staff and new cafe are set up at the main entrance. Squash courts, basketball courts, pool and more are all available here. All services at uniactive come with discounts for students. Undercover paid parking also available.

Expensive, lazy staff who are more concerned about their workout and taking selfies without their shirts on. (yes they are superficial and in love with themselves) than paying clients, half the equipment is never used and useless, dirty, limited free weights, pool unusable during peak" periods

We have been to 3 swimming schools since living in Wollongong for the past 2 years and this is by far the best one in the area. At first I wasn't keen on the idea of an outdoor pool but even during winter its been great. Plenty of chairs, easy sign in for the kids, lots of showers and bonus of make-up lessons. The kids can also use the pool before or after their lessons.

Good gym, heaps of equipment, great pool and basketball / squash facilities. Gets pretty crowded and almost no instructors on the floor. It's nicer to go here when the University is not in session.Steroid filled bros never leave the bench alone, long waits in the weight areas. I wish there were more functionally focused classes too.
