Stayed here on the Thursday 29 Dec 2022, booking a room with an en suite bathroom. Before checking in, left luggage/bags with manager because we wanted to do a hike. Came back in the evening and easy check in. Room was very clean, although old. Their cleaners seem to do a thorough job, which confirmed some other reviews. We also ate at the restaurant for dinner, with the Thursday $30 for 2 meals special - we ordered 2 rump steak meals, and they exceeded expectations. (although there was a 30 to 40 minute wait for dinner, because they were busy - locals seem to like to dine there). The managers at the inn are very friendly and helpful - we met 3 of them over the two days (we only stayed 1 night) and felt very welcome. Would stay again and book the room with the ensuite bathroom. So much value

I just had lunch at the Gardners Inn Hotel Creamy Mash with Beef Cheeks and also a sizeable portion of onion rings I ordered separately. I always stop here for meals when in the mountains dont miss out on the Beef Cheeks they are totally awesome.

Most affordable spot I found in Blackheath ($40 AUD/night per person for 2 in a shared room, with shared bath situation) for climbers on a budget just trying to maximize climb time! I liked that there was a sink in the room (even though bathroom and showers were shared in the hall) and that you can get water fill ups at the bar. Thurs night bistro 2-for-1 special also a good deal and though we didn't attend, karaoke on Wed seemed very lively! The thing they could improve on would be hours consistency, though I do understand that as a small local business in a small town, this will be somewhat informal. For example, our first night we got back at just before 9pm and was told it was too late to eat, which is fine. So the next night before we left we were told to get back and order food by 8:20pm, which we did! But then we saw another couple order food just before 9pm. Also checkout is at 10am but when we came down at 9:15am there was no one around for us to leave our bags with, and we were a bit confused, until someone emerged 15 min later (they don't have a reception area, it's really just the bar, so there wasn't a place we could even ask for help or ring a bell for service). Not a big deal but more consistency would be helpful!

Lovely historical pub. It's been restored /renovated but retains all the charm. Very clean, friendly staff and locals. We had a delicious dinner of the chicken parmi and rump steak as part of their $29 special for two meals, which is available on Thursday nights. I had the pleasure of meeting a local gentleman in his 90's who told me that Charles Darwin stayed there in 1836 when it was called The Blackheath Inn. We really enjoyed our experience here.

I do wish there was more than 5*****The staff + Wow, oh Wow.....soooo GOODAccommodation, perfect for our 1 night stay, very clean and comfortable. We arrived 8pm, so their famous Beef and Guinness Pot Pie" had been devoured by others: but our Lamb and Rosemary sausages were really yummy anyway. Will we be back?? You betcha. Even the other half was keen before we even left.Thank you to all the staff there; you are wonderful."

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!After waiting an hour for my families meals, we went to the bar to ask how much longer we would need to wait just to be completely ignored by one particular male staff member with glasses, and a beanie. I have never met someone working in a bar that was so rude!Food finally arrived an HOUR AND A HALF! after ordering, and was ice cold.NEVER AGAIN WILL I WASTE MY MONEY OR TIME AT THIS RUDE PUB.

Terrible food. Honestly, how can you not manage to put out a nice chicken schnitzel, mash and veg. They need a new cook. Inside dining area lovely but outside quite revolting. Staff lovely.
