Goolwa Barrage
Such an awesome place to visit whether for a quick 30 minutes or a few hours. We’ve been lucky enough to see Seals near the lock every time we’ve been, as well as lots of bird life. The garden area is amazingly well kept too - feels like you are walking on carpet!

Always love a walk here to sea the seals, pelicans and other wildlife. This time .... water level up 30cm, barrage open, no pelicans and no room for seals to bask except on the main cross beams so they're barrelling and basking nearby

Goolwa Barrage
I visited the Goolwa Barrage with my family during our Easter vacation and we were absolutely blown away by the engineering and ingenuity that went into this structure. The barrage serves a crucial role in separating the river water from saltwater, which is important for maintaining the ecological balance in the area. It was amazing to see how mankind can control nature for the greater good. The area surrounding the barrage is also incredibly beautiful, with stunning views of the river and ocean meeting. We took a walk along the barrage and enjoyed the fresh air and peaceful surroundings. We even spotted some wildlife in the area, which added to the experience. The cultural significance of the Goolwa Barrage cannot be understated. It's a testament to the hard work and dedication of the engineers who designed and built it, and it's a source of pride for the local community. It's clear that a lot of thought and care went into the construction of the barrage, and it's great to see it being put to good use.Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Goolwa Barrage for anyone interested in engineering, nature, or just looking for a beautiful spot to enjoy some time outdoors. It's a unique and fascinating structure that highlights the ways in which mankind can work with nature for the greater good. We had a great time and will definitely be back!

Had a lovely walk around Goolwa and the Barrage. Very interesting. These photos were taken when all the gates were open due to the River Murray floods.

Goolwa Barrage is my favorite spot in Goolwa! It is managed by WaterSA, but you can enter and visit for free, and there are free parking spaces available. Here, you can learn about the operation of the barrage lifts and greet the boat owners who use the lifts. I highly recommend parents to bring their children here because they will love the facilities and the wildlife. You can spot seals, pelicans, and seagulls, which adds to the excitement and enjoyment of the visit!

Very informative. Couldn't believe there was so much thought in the management of the Murray river to stop the salt water infiltrating into the fresh water.

Interesting place to visit and learn about the weirs on the Murray River. You can walk half way across. We saw some sea lions. There's a few picnic tables too, and a toilet.
