This is part of the Burra historical trail.Get a key from the Visitor Information Centre to visit this and lots of other places in and around Burra. Wonderful town.

This is part of the whole Burra Heritage Passport Tourist Drive. Compared to other site this wasn't appealing. You could see three dugouts where some miners used to live. It's quite dark so you really can't see much even with the phone torch

Amazing how people lived during the height of Burra's mining past.

You need a trail key to access. It's quite interesting to think that a large number of people use to live in the creek bed and call it home. Can not image the fear that large rainfall would have.

Entrance to the dugout area is part if the overpriced Passport purchased in town @ $30 per adult. However there is a hole in the fence off Burra creek which is well used. Take a torch if you want to look past the cage into the room beyond. I love the Burra township and recommend it as an overnight or 2 stay.

Got to see these close up. Very interesting. Can't imagine living there. Nice and cool though.

Very interesting to see how tough life was back then. No housing so excavate to side of a creek to live in with the family. 1200 odd people lived along the creek.

Very interesting piece of history. It seems unimaginable that, due to a shortage of housing in Burra during the 1850's, people were forced by necessity to dig dug out houses into the creek embankment.

An interesting insight to how tough the life was for early mining families, could do with a mow around the entrance as grass and shrubs had covered the track a bit but the rest was nice.
