Place is closing down and potentially due to the prices being far above the norm(I understand each business has the right for their own mark up). The main reason I’m rating this poorly however is due to the assistant (man aged in his 50s+), unbelievably rude behaviour trying to get my 2.5 year old not to touch something by clapping at her and making noises as if she were a dog-there’s a million better ways to get her attention and with more respect. Quite appalling and unacceptable

Quality shop, it’s a shame they will have to relocate soon...

Great selection, friendly owner, very pleased with my purchase.

Sadly, as a local avid cook and cake decorator, every one of my trips to this shop have been met with scorn and rudeness by the owner. My most recent grievance is refusal to acknowledge that the $70 cake leveller I purchased was not fit for purpose. Nowhere on the packaging or in conversation about my plans to use it did it say that it was only suitable for light sponge cakes. After ruining five cakes (mud, orange gluten free and regular chocolate cakes) with this expensive and dangerous saw, I took it in to ask for a refund. I was blamed for not tightening the blades (incorrect) and for using it on cakes other than sponges. I was sent away with no apology or offer to refund/exchange the product that was clearly sold to me for cutting non-sponge cakes.

Interesting and extremely useful range. Unpredictable and tantilising specials table of oddities and rarities. They have spices, and at a price any culinary problem can be solved here. .... but stock levels can be patchy but we're managing well despite the pandemic aren't we, in our constant kitchens. Bake on!

Always a pleasure to visit this store. It requires great restraint every time I am there. Always something I want!

Chef and the Cook is an excellent selection of kitchenware hidden away in the inner west. The owner is very friendly and there to help with any questions you might have. We went in yesterday with a list of 4 items and came out with 15! Every time I turned a corner I saw something else I needed but hadn't thought to look for. Definitely worth a visit for anything from a pie dish to a whetstone, sourdough bannetons or beer glasses. They have it all!

Friendly but not overbearing assistance, a huge range of quality kitchenware, and lots of random bots and pieces to discover, like old Fowler preserving jars. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.
