Siding Spring Observatory
Absolutely mindblown. We stumbled across this place on our way back to Melbourne. To see such a magnificent machine up close was so mind blowing to see. We didn’t get to do the tour but if you can’t it won’t affect what you will be able to see. It doesn’t cost a thing to go to the deck and look at the telescope. With an amazing view of the warrumbungles! 100% recommend

The tour is absolutely worth it with Branioc. Great pace, enthusiasm, and a sound knowledge of facility that he articulates well.Do it. You will not regret a minute of itThe view from drome's Walkway platform is worth it alone, The view is spectacular over the whole Warrenbungles volcanic area.Tours are scheduled, and you can book ahead.Check with the info centres at Gilgandra or Coonabarabran. He also I ffers a tour of the Southern Sky at Coonabarabran. See photo of contact card. His coffee is good too!

We visited while the cafe and main visitor centre was closed - but that turned out fine as there was nobody there! And we still got to see the AA telescope itself in the visitors gallery and look at the exhibits in there. Just follow the path upwards and anyone can just walk in and take the elevator up. Nice views too.Good to see accessible toilets there, and there is a ramp all the way up to the AAT, although it may be steep for some wheelchair users without assistance. Also we loved the scale model of the solar system around the area too! The inner planets are all on the drive up to the observatory

Nice Cafe on site serving great coffee and cakes. We were too late for a tour, but some breathtaking views available from up here.

We enjoyed a fascinating tour of the Anglo Australian Telescope at Siding Spring Observatory. $30 for a 90 minute guided tour including access into restricted areas and out on the catwalk outside of the dome!

Siding Spring Observatory
A fantastic place to visit. A wonderful drive with amazing scenery and when you reach the top of the mountain you have the observatory. There is a visitors centre with cakes and drinks and you can book a tour into the telescope. Ring ahead first. Highly recommended

Siding Spring Observatory
An amazing vista and the place is oozing history - we spontaneously detoured off the main road and stumbled unexpectedly on this gem, highly recommended, well worth taking a break on your long drive to visit Siding Spring. Or plan more time to properly explore Warrumbungle National Park - stunning hills, great camping and bush walks.
