Iluka Bakery

Visited this bakery on a road trip. Arrived at 6:30am and was greeted with a very unpleasant staff member who told customers we don’t open until 7am which fair but the door was wide open with the open sign turned to “open”. So one would assume you’re open. Customers were inside and she continued to say I’m happy to serve you, said customer said “yes please” to which she rolled her eyes and shook her head. Any how we left and came back half an hour later to get some breakfast as nothing else was open due to public holiday/ early hours. Purchased a mince pie to which you literally could not eat it, you would need a straw to drink your pie or wear it all over your clothes. Such a disappointing experience.

Bright, cheerful, excellent bakery in a small town. Great selection, as have most Aussie bakeries. Fantastic tea loaf.

More please....Scones were a crowd pleaser for morning tea. We has three types and all great but highlight for me was the macadamia, date and ginger. Great scones and very filling. Generous attitude and really nice people.

The chilli pie is my favourite here, fortunately they had one on hand this visit. They even include beans! Sadly, the pastry stability is poor and completely fell apart on me! (made quite the hot, delicious mess). Service is always friendly and fast.

Really good customer service. I wish I had asked the couple's name because they were really nice people. Very well mannered, friendly and beautiful human being. Now to the croissant. When me and couple of my work colleagues went in there just after the shop opened in the morning, I was honestly not expecting much. Thinking it's a local bakery in a regional town. Boy I was naive and I learnt my lesson well. Never judge a book by it's cover. Ok so back to the croissant. I ordered a plain and an almond croissant. Now I have been going around different towns and trying croissants from different bakeries. And most of the time I have been disappointed. Plain croissant will be too hard or too dry and almond croissant filling will just taste awful with a chemical after taste. I am not going to go into details about that because that is not why I am writing this review. This review is purely about the croissant I have had at this bakery. Starting with plain croissant, it had the right and generous amount of butter. It had a crispy, flaky golden brown crust that crackled in my mouth as you bit into it. The layers were soft without the doughiness and rather than tasting sugar, I could taste the butter but without the feel of greasiness. Now moving on to the almond croissant. The texture was similar to the plain one but filled with creamy gooey almond custard. It had a rich floral favour but without chemical aftertaste. I would recommend this place not just because of the customer service but for the delicious croissant that you get from this bakery. Well done guys and I wish you all the best for the future. I hope that I will be able to go back there and experience it again.

Great little bakery best sausage rolls and for dessert with a coffee their amazing little coconut jam tarts. Nicely done ladies. If only you were our local.
