I think the staff are amazing. Was at the Old Bar the other night and was queuing up for a drink at the bar which was 2 to 3 people deep and I was nestled around the corner. Thought the myself, yeah this is gonna take 30 mins to get served but no! The staff managed the crowd perfectly, kept an eye on who was waiting and served them promptly. Thought that was impressive so thank you very much :-) .

Live music is spot on. They have outdoor smoking area. Nice place to hangout with friends.

Nice bar with good vibes. Too bad staff members ruin the whole experience. But if you're ready to be talked to like you're a worthless human being, still worth a visit.

Got poor service of the bartender on a quiet night who was glued to her phone instead of sparing a minute to take my order. Left mself and friend hanging whilst standing right in front her. The one star is for her colleague who came over from the other side of the room to serve me. Phone girl clearly set off a bad vibe and I won't be going back.

A weekend visitor to Melbourne i asked bar staff and patrons at the Drunken Poet bar where i could go to see alternative live music and The Old Bar was immediately recommended. As a patron of alternative pubs in Sydney in the 90s this place was perfect. Old school vibes and just a bit grimey but super cosey. Great little stage area and a outside area also. Clientelle were laidback locals with a few oldies and a smattering of young uni hipsters (silly hats and incongruous moustaches etc). We were very lucky to stumble on a smattering of local punky bands as well as a cut down set (not all members present) of a visiting old school German punk band called The Hip Preists who i highly reccommend. I'll definitely put this bar on my must visit places for my next trips.
