Mary Petts' Guitar School

My daughter Anastasia and my son Nick both were fortunate to have learned guitar through Mary Petts' Guitar School. Mary is a gifted teacher with a great balance of enthusiasm, creativity and patience. Lessons are held in small groups in a large natural setting with herb and veggie patch, chooks and rabbits for children to enjoy. A valuable learning experience that will stay with our family for years to come!

I have been a student of Mary since 2012. She is a commited teacher, who is capable of teaching old and the young eaqually. She pays attention to each and every student even in her group classes, and guides accordingly. I like the supportive and friendly environment of learning at Mary's guitar school, the most.

I first went to see Mary for guitar lessons in 2016. I wasn't sure what sort of lessons I would need for a 70 year old. I have never played a guitar before so I was very anxious. Mary was very patient, understanding and very professional. In total, I had 24 lessons, and each week I was given a new song/task to learn. She taught me the basic cords and I practiced them each week. I learnt 21 songs, and very happy to be able to play the guitar in such a short time. I wouldn't have achieved it without Mary's tuition and I recommend Mary Petts' Guitar School for any age group.

Mary is not just a guitar teacher, she enfolds you into her family and brings you into a wonderful community of friendship with all the other families of the children who have lessons and to her wider family. Mary's small groups lessons, allow the children to receive lots of one on one assistance with the added benefit of helping the kids to tune their ears into and playing along with others. Mary knows each child's abilities, she knows when to extend them, when to encourage, when to demonstrate and when to inspire them. Mary absolutely loves to teach the children under her care. Mary takes the kids past just playing the guitar in a formal lesson situation, by providing them with regular opportunities and experiences to play their music for the enjoyment of others; like the Christmas concert extravaganza, playing and singing on the local community radio, playing for little children in childcare settings, busking and a variety of others throughout the year. This allows the students to play for real life audiences, to showcase what they can do and to have a real purpose for playing. My kids have loved these opportunities and it has helped them to extend themselves and enjoy making other people happy with their music. I have two children who have guitar lessons with Mary. My son has been with Mary for about ten years and my daughter has been having lessons for about five years. Both of my kids have flourished under Mary's care and tuition. Regards, Mary Giddings

Mary is a great guitar teacher. She has consummate skills in teaching the guitar for all levels. The songs are popular songs which makes the learning fun. Mary has a great singing voice to accompany the songs. Mary is an accomplished and talented guitarist herself. I can't recommend Mary highly enough, you won't regret learning guitar under Mary's patient tutelage.

Both my son and daughter have been getting guitar lessons from Mary for many years now. l cant express my gratitude to Mary and her family. She is a wonderful teacher ful of fun, loving attitude and commited to her passion for music. It is hard to find teachers that commit from the heart but Mary is one l can100% recommend.
