Herring Island Sculpture Park
This place is one of Melbourne's best kept secrets: a small island on the Yarra River between Richmond and South Yarra, with various sculptures nestled amidst native bushland, and only accessible by a small barge operated by Parks Victoria.

The idea is better than the reality.Wow there's this island that people don't know about! You go there and see why. It's really just a bit dull. Anticipating adventure and afterwards an anticlimax. It's ok but I'd never bother seeing it again. Art sculptures need more signage. Sitting at the Yarra is fine, the grass isn't greener on Herring Island.

The island is an oasis in the city. Only accessible by boat, there is a small barge that operates part of the year and will take you across for a small fee. Has BBQ's and great place just to relax. Never been crowded.

An amazing heritage site, little art gallery is always interesting. The walks have numerous unusual sculptures. Wildlife plentiful if your patient significant birdlife to photograph. Picnic tables are well maintained, in all great place to reflect.

Interesting island. A number of sculptures hidden in the bush, a lovely picnic area, public toilets and an art gallery. Who would have thought this was hiding in the middle of the city! Awesome!!

Herring Island is a lovely place to go for a short walk, have a picnic or barbeque and enjoy the gallery when its open. Take the 2 minute ferry journey across from Como Landing next to Kanteen cafe. On your return across the river the Kanteen Cafe has great coffee including breakfast and lunch options to suit everyone.

Secluded, it's one of those secret discoveries in Victoria which you, once know, have a bit of secret glee at having known it. Such a delight.

Hidden gem! Found it by accident, but it's a lovely little sculpture trail on an island in the middle of Melbourne! Nice picnic spot, too.

Herring Island is a very interesting place to visit. I never knew you could visit the island right in the middle of the Yarra River just down from Como House.
