Cooks Hill Family Practice

I am a regular patient at this practice and it's not the first time that I have been let down by the Reception staff. This time, the day of my appointment, I rang up to ask if my Doctor was running on time (as she usually isn't), only to find out that I had infact not been booked in at all. Very frustrating and disheartening, especially when I had arranged a day off work for this appointment. Not good enough. You trust that people can do their job properly, and someone at this Reception desk clearly can't.

What a fantastic medical practice. I had a long term Doctor on Darby St, Dr MacDonald, who unfortunately for me retired in 2022. And being a bloke, I avoided finding a new Doctor as it's hard to find someone you trust and I don't like change. Eventually I decided to try this Family Practice. Dr Alex Amory is amazing. The atmosphere in the practice is very friendly and I'm always greeted positively by all of the reception staff. The place looks brand new and the waiting room is spacious and relaxing. They even have a skin cancer clinic, with Dr Tim Hamilton, which is an added bonus. Across the hallway is Hunter Imaging and Pathology, which is so convenient. I would highly recommend Cooks Hill Family Practice to anyone looking for a new doctor in our local area.

Every doctor I’ve seen here is wonderful, but as many others have said, there is one receptionist who is so rude and unhelpful that it makes me afraid to call. I’m holding my breath every time I go in. To be spoken to with so little sympathy and courtesy when already ill is appalling. So glad to see I’m not the only one with this experience. I hope things have improved since people have had these experiences.

Their protocols seem to be more important than the health of their patients. Visit them for a first-time check-up of a 3-month-old and the doctor decided to don't do any checks on him because I didn't transfer previously to my appointment his medical history from a previous practice we used (a practice that just did one check on him - that was his all medical history as he's a healthy 3 months) ask them to please check his development height/weight and so on as we are going overseas for an extended time and the doctor replies that is the nurse's job, so my whole experience and appointment was a waste of time and we end up with no one even looking at him. For the record, no one told me when I booked the appointment that I should book with the nurses and I complete the new patient forms and told them my intentions on my booking call. I definitely won't be going back.

I want our community to know what a wonderful practice we have in Cooks Hill. I am a new patient after my dear Doctor of many years retired and I couldn't be happier. More important than the new facilities are the wonderful staff who take time to organise or review appointments and are so obliging and friendly. A special shout out to the lovely Louise who is hilarious as well as kind. My elderly parents are also patients here and they are well cared for and respected. Thanks to the GP and support staff!

Dr Amory was fantastic. I snapped my Achilles and he got straight onto it and coordinated scans and specialist appointments very efficiently. This enabled me to get surgery quickly. It meant a lot as there was a chance I would be too late for surgery before Xmas. Very grateful

My family and I have been going to Cooks Hill Family Practice for a couple of years now. I have always had a good experience. The doctors are lovely and very thorough. The centre is clean and well run. I have no hesitation in recommending it.

Good Health care, appalling waiting room white noise music and incessant radio advertisements.
