A looong open stretch of golden sand (6.6 km!), today’s swim was at the very northern end of Port Kembla Beach. Tucked behind the excellent seawater Olympic Pool, between its water intake pipe and a rocky headland, is a perpetually calm swimming spot that’s the ocean without the waves. And it’s gosh-darn beautiful. Blue-green water that’s crystal clear and clean, in stark contrast to yesterday’s unsatisfying Northern Beaches experience.The people are so much friendlier and from so many diverse cultures too, much like the rest of the Wollongong area. We felt much more welcome. Here the parking’s free, there are plenty of facilities including more outdoor showers scattered around than we’ve seen anywhere else, it’s just made of win and we’ll return again.

Great place to swim or walk, good high swells to dive into and experience the thrill of the ocean waves, very clean
