Don't miss this place and the chance to snorkel with the turtles, fish and rays. A delight. Beware Celts, the UV is very high and sunburn almost inevitable if you go in the water without a body suit!

This review refers specifically to Fitzroy Island. It is a beautiful place, sheltered waters suitable for snorkeling and coral reef close to shore. The resort is great although not perfect. Range of accommodation from camping to beach bungalows and our choice hotel style apartments. We were on the top ( 3rd ) floor. Views are good and there is a lift. Service is good, they have a lot of young, attractive back packer people from various backgrounds working there. Foxy's bar is pick of the eateries, although not open for dinner. Zephyrs restaurant was a disappointment, expensive quite ordinary food. The pool bar has an abbreviated menu at reasonable prices. The pool is great, as is the swim up bar. There are walking trails if you're feeling fit and lots of beautiful scenery.

If your Up here in Port Douglas, you need to walk our amazing 4 Mile Beach..You may see pods of dolphins or on low tide you will see Sting Rays, fish or a cheeky sneaky crocodiles..Always swim in the nets, safest place to play...

This is a must-do. 9:00-5:00. Book in advance required. It is 39 miles (70 km) away. Seasick folks both directions, but they have what you need. Get the ice towels for your neck from the crew. Free, and it works. There is snorkel, scuba, helicopter, lessons for scuba. Water temp takes a couple minutes to adjust to. I recommend the stinger suit (protects against jellyfish), although there were none when we were there. They also have wet suits. They have all the equipment you need, so don't bother bringing any. Another option we learned about too late was Reefsleep, where you can spend the night on their massive pontoon. You can swim under the stars, eat a great meal and sleep under the stars in a tent they provide. People loved it.

We had an incredible opportunity to stay on a private island - one of the few still able to be bought and sold in the park. Unbelievably beautiful experience, very restful. We walked the shoreline, collected the flotsam and jetsam, seem in the pool, got freaked out about the huge crocodile tracks in the mud, watched the moon rise on one side of the island, and the sun set on the other. Delightful. Take the opportunity of you can of visiting.

Oh the Great barrier reef. How I'm gonna mis you.. You can only visit it by either going on one of the many boat trips, or by hiring your own boat. If you are going to hire your own boat I can highly recommend to go snorkeling at luncheon Bay, butterfly Bay and blue pearl Bay.

Visited Magnetic Island and the place was beautiful. Have recently moved to Townsville and plan on exploring much more of the reef over my stay. The views are stunning so far

Don't bother with the snorkelling around the islands just hit the reef! The good:-This is what you are after when you want to see stuff- The tour operator knows the spots to check- Safe- so much to see- It's not deep but know how to do it, to get the most out of it. (snorkelling)The BAD- It's a bit of a trip, take your favourite travel sickness pills with you. Better safe than sorry- Make sure you know what the tour provides ( food and equipment) talk to them the day before if you want something beyond the normDon't bother with the snorkelling around the islands just hit the reef!
