One Trick Pony
Really wanted to love this place but it was so chaotic. We had an 8.15pm booking and waited at the bar til 8.55pm, when I said we'd head off at 9.00pm if there was no table. Then a shot glass of tomato soup arrived and we were seated. We tried to order bread to quell the hanger but no luck. Things looked hopeless by 9.20pm so we did our first ever walk out. Staff upstairs didn't seem worried. The guy at the downstairs bar didn't accept payment for the glass of wine and was genuinely apologetic. Things would've been so different with some communication, bread and wine. Luckily we hadn't drunk much so drove over to Spice Mix on Lygon Street which is open late and always 11/10. Thanks for saving our Valentines Day Spice Mix xox

Recently opened, and lovely for an easy lunch with a bottle of wine in the sun. Attentive and engaged wait staff. The pork is amongst the best I’ve ever had.

YUM!!! Since the initial open a few months back, I have been lucky enough to visit One Trick Pony multiple times. They seriously know what they are doing. Eating upstairs in the beautiful restaurant space, all the food is just top notch. Beef heart anticucho, asparagus, ocean trout and caviar, those damn biscuits and stracciatella… I think I have eaten it all… more than once! More than happy to return at any chance, the longer the seating the better. Firm firm fav in Melbourne already

HIDDEN GEMWe dined at OTP last night and have not stopped reminiscing about our incredible dining experience. From the moment we walked through the doors we were greeted with a warm welcome from both the sommelier and wait staff. The concept of perousing your wine in the wine store and then venturing up the stairs to an intimate dining room, was magic. The dining room has artwork from a local artist featuring iconic scenes from Fitzroy North. We were lucky enough to sit at the chefs table where we got to see all the action.The food was incredible, we had the cured trout which was delicious, the texture of the brik pastry with the trout, spot on. We tried some new additions to the menu including macadamia, radish and taro which was a beautiful combination. The warm spanner crab tart, delicious, the asparagus amazing with a beautiful Parmesan custard was fresh and creamy. We then tried the new additions to the menu, the miso eggplant, soooo good, and grouper with sofritto butter, delightful. Followed by the basque cheesecake.Honestly everything was 20/10 and we couldn’t recommend this hidden gem highly enough.Well done team for a memorable dining experience.

Awesome new restaurant in one of the nicest spots in Melbourne. The food, service, decor and wine list were all on point. The garfish was a highlight for me but there were heaps of good options for a table of 5 people.

A few years back I was working with Chris as his sous chef at the local smoke house Bluebonnet.We were having a yarn during routine morning prep. He was honing my skills. After I said thank you, he looked at me and said, “I’m no one trick pony mate”.A few years later his dreams became reality and ‘One trick pony’ (OTP) was born. Not even a few months after the doors had opened the reviewers had flooded in to see this old dog’s new tricks.When I stepped into the warm and stunning restaurant and bar I was greeted by chaps who had an aura of charm, and an abundance of recommendations.Sitting down and looking around at the majestic art on the walls I noticed the cocktail cart tucked neatly in the corner ready for a table side show and a sip.Chris sent me a selection of dishes.The crowd favourite cured trout, kataifi and caviar. The perfect balance of crunch, acid and umami washed down with a Melbourne tinny.The beef heart with salsa verde came with the funkiest skull skewer. The beef was extremely tender and kept me wanting for more.The house made Truffle salami and cured wild boar were a perfect pairing with my table side gin and tonic.The stars of the show for me were the gold band snapper with broad beans and beurre blanc, as well as the rye cavatelli with ricotta and spring veggies.The only way to end any amazing meal came with cheese and figs, paired with a lovely desert wine.I forgot to ask what it was but Ill be sure to ask when I am next in.The food: 10/10The service: 10/10The atmosphere: 10/10The love: 10/10Well done Chis and the whole team at OTP, my mouth is watering to come back for more!40/40.

New chef is amazing, does the whole kit and kaboodle himself, food is fresh and delicious (chef is from Westwood for those who have ever been). Wait staff were attentive and wine was great. Highly recommend.

GO HERE! Intimate neighbourhood bar tucked inside the cosy streets of Nth Fitzroy. A stylish vibe, excellent wine list and a small but bang-on menu. The chef/owner was a super friendly guy and we were really impressed with all of his share plate suggestions…The food was incredible! Great service, excellent wine and classy vibe. We were actually very surprised at how reasonably priced it was too given the high standard. Can’t wait to revisit.

My partner surprised me with a night out at a niche and wonderful wine bar and restaurant in north Fitzroy.One trick pony was absolutely full house when we arrived.The bartender greeted us with glasses of champagne and set menus ready for tonight’s feast.With every seat in the house taken he sat us at the downstairs bar and even complemented us our champagne.After a short time enjoying each other’s company we were taken upstairs into the restaurant, the front of house staff grace could not have been more accommodating.When the food started rolling out we could not believe how delicious and morish each dish was after the next.After 8 courses and drinks we hardly had room for desert.Our favorites were the smoked eel with tomato tea.Beef tar tare.Grilled king island prawns.Stracciatella toast.Duck breast with rainbow card,and the Basque cheesecake.10/10 We will be back again for more.Hats off to the staff for such an amazing service on such a busy valentine’s day.Thank you!

Incredible food, beautiful space and the service was amazing. The wine shop and the advice we received before ordering our wine was a great experience and a wonderful idea.
