Great spot to stay when exploring the Derby MTB trials. Located on the river trail its only a short ride to the trail head. Room was small and facing the main road so was a bit noisy. Separate bathroom/toilets would not suite everyone. Bike shed to store bikes securely overnight was a big plus.

We were staying in Derby, and the Dorset Hotel was recommended for dinner. It was a cold day and night here, and I thought a good old country pub would be a real treat. Unfortunately, the dining room was nearly as cold as outside. The fire was going, but it either didn't start early enough to warm the room or not enough wood and care given. Patrons were all wearing the coats and jackets. Staff was not warm and friendly as I would have expected. Perhaps they are understaffed. Their food was not good even after the long wait time. The burger I ordered was way overcooked and the pasta was lacking in flavour. Very disappointed, this could be an amazing pub with some caring staff and owner(s).

Good atmosphere but the food was disappointing. They were out of chicken parmigiana and schnitzels which is unheard of for a pub. Ordered expensive steaks only to have my medium-rare turn up as raw. The current cook needs more experience cooking steaks imho. They had also run out of a Shiraz so it appeared to us that someone wasn’t doing their job when it comes to stocking.

Dinner at the pub was delicious! Everyone had a great meal. Fantastic service and the manager Sam was a very funny fella!

We ordered food which took almost an hour to arrive due to an error of the staff. We were not offered any compensation. The WiFi did not work at all. I asked the staff to restart the router or provide an alternative. They refused and said to wait patiently for it to work (it didn't). The walls were paper thin and we could hear the bar music through most of the night.Very unpleasant stay.

Awesome pub with beers and food! I highly recommend a reservation. My husband and I didn’t have a booking and they let us eat in the bar (we were super lucky because they were booked out that day)! Great beer and ciders. We both really enjoyed our burgers. Would happily return (with a booking) next time we’re in Derby!

Stayed 6 nights in twin room, suited my needs for riding Derby. Excellent clean and modern bathrooms. Noise from bar below easily managed with ear plugs. River behind pub is great for swimming after a day of riding. Breakfast included was all I needed: toast, cereal, yoghurt, tea/coffee/juice. Loved my stay, friendly staff, great restaurant food too.

We stayed in our van in the car park. This place was slammed on a Tuesday night, the staff were excellent, great service. I had pork katsu and my husband had the steak burger, both were excellent! Highly recommend.

I am sorry but the bar downstairs is really loud….I stay right upstairs tonight and have an early morning tmw…I am riding a bike on Tasman hwy all the way to St Helen’s. and I’ll have to focus tmw…but the noise is so loud….I don’t know what to do >___

Sam was our lovely bartender and he made every effort to introduce us to all the locally made beers and gins. The food was not what we expected from a country pub - we had the chicken schnitzel (which is very pub-like) and the salmon rice bowl. Both dishes were delicious.
