Great wide track, continuous slow uphill. Lots of native fauna along the track

Mount Riddell Hiking Trail
This is generally a very accessible-for-all hike on a wide road, although it’s relatively steep. Giving 3 stars because when you reach the top there isn’t any view to reward your effort - just a pile of rocks. If simply knowing that you’ve reached the top of the mountain and physical exercise is enough for you, then this hike is for you. If the view is what you’re after, you’ll get a beautiful one of Yarra Valley just 30 mins into the hike.

Nice walk with lovely views of dam 30 mins in. Steady gradient that's not to taxing and best section is last 600 metres which takes you off the 4 metre gravel access road and onto a small trail through the bush. Takes about 3 hours to complete

Went here not knowing what to expect. Some really nice views on the way up. The track is more like a access road than a walking track and its reasonably steep without much relief. Unfortunately there isn't a decent view up top but there is a decent size Cairn up there.

A nice 6.8km/630m elevation gain walk along the well marked hiking trail to the summit of Mt Riddell. There is no view from the top so be sure to enjoy the views of the nearby Maroondah Reservoir on the way up/down. The route itself is fairly uninteresting access roads, however the last few hundred metres have a nice rainforest type atmosphere as the road becomes a trail only accessible by foot.

Do you like walking 610m in ascent up a gravel 4WD road? If so, this will be the walk for you. If not, avoid it as you are likely to find it a treadmill. This is a hard one to give stars to. At first, I was going to give it one star, because it is just Mt Riddell road that has had a gate put at the bottom blocking it to public cars and has lazily been relabelled a 'hike'. However, I got into it as I went up and for quite a lot of the time there are views over to Mt St Leonard that are pretty decent. The top is just a cairn with zero view, but at least the last section is a proper footpath and there was a definite sense of accomplishment at the top.It really is too bad that there are no summit views. Mt Riddell is a beautiful mountain, or rather outlier of the Donna Buang massif, and is a pyramidal beauty that looks stunning from the Yarra Glen side.Anyway, three stars feels right. If you live locally and need exercise, it's handy.

Quiet, beautiful bush walk with a workout component - ascending around 600m over 6.5km. Wide, marked trail (roadside Road 2 markers) of mostly gravel for the first 5.5+km, then the last 900m to the summit (orange markers on trees) is largely flat single-track through dense forest floor. Views over Maroondah Dam on the way up (at one lookout point and various other stages through the trees) are great. The constantly changing trailside plant life is interesting, and you could be lucky enough to see some lyrebirds hard at work foraging close to the trail. The incline would make for hard work if you're not fit, but the surfaces are good throughout. It's worth noting the descent is also taxing on the legs due to the slope of the surface. It took us 3h30m return with a few stops of a 3-5 minutes each. On a clear summer day, you'll be constantly in and out of the sun, with approximately 50% of the trail in shade, so while the area has a lot of tree cover, sunscreen up and carry a hat. There are no facilities on the mountain, so bring your own water and snacks for a long walk. Mobile phone reception comes and goes (and can be weak), so download your trail map before you leave.
