Creative menu. Had the Poke Bowl (deconstructed sushi) as well as the Soft Shell crab burger in a Brioche Bun. Both had interesting flavours.Decor was more basic and toned down from the previous cafe (Lalage).Coffee was greatUpdate (October 2022)******This is now the third incarnation of this location and the best yet. Mr & Mrs Anderson is now a Japanese inspired cafe serving great coffee and an interesting selection of Japanese style breakfasts and snacks. Desserts are great. Staff are friendly and courteous.

If you love Japanese style cafes then you should add the cosy Mr & Mrs Anderson in Hawthorn East to your list. Recently visiting for brunch I enjoyed the salmon chazuke along with a matcha latte.The salmon chazuke was beautifully plated. The broth was nice and light and complimented the rice and salmon. Perfect for a chilly morning, the dish was quite comforting. The matcha latte was lovely, I liked the option of adding honey for a touch of sweetness.

Nice little quaint Cafe in Hawthorn East Melbourne. Food is average for me price wise I think fair for Melbourne considering everything has gone up in value.

The brekky sets were pretty good. Would recommend either the chicken katsu or salmon onigiri. Portions weren't that big though and rather pricey for what you get. The almond croissant wasn't the best; it was a bit dense. Staff were friendly and service was quite quick.

I recently visited a local cafe and was blown away by the quality of their coffee. From the first sip, I knew that I was experiencing something special. The espresso had a rich, velvety crema on top and a robust flavour that was both smooth and bold. The latte art was beautifully crafted and demonstrated the attention to detail that went into each cup. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the cozy atmosphere made for a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

This is one of the best Japanese style cafe I have found in Melbourne! Went there so many times this year! The coffee is on point and the food is amazing! If you crave for authentic high quality Japanese food because you can’t travel to Japan yet, come to this cafe. All the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful, the kitchen is very efficient too. The interior of the cafe is nicely decorated, so bright filled with sunlight, its also very spacious with comfy seats. Highly recommend the sesame latte (no caffeine) and the Tempura Prawn Sandwich!! All the lunch dishes are up to my expectation of authentic Japanese lunch too!
