We stopped for a quick look but ended up being here for well over an hour. It's a very quiet tourist attraction, we were alone the whole time. If you are fairly interested in the gold rush, engineering and history you will love this. A self guided tour with plenty of fascinating stories and facts to read. There is original machinery, decades or more old to have a look at and even handle - like the massive water pump. Considering this is free and so quiet I would say this is a hidden gem in the area. Certainly worth stopping for. The little maze game was a nice way to end the visit. I would come back again without hesitation! Don't miss this.

Great fun exploring on a sunny cold day. Historic mining site for all ages. Areas to explore and walk while also leaning a little about the past. It’s the reason Castlemaine became a town and this site is one of many examples that brought the crowds to find their bit of gold. You can pan for gold in the water or just explore the self guided walking areas. Some old rusty bits laying around the open area from the past.

We stopped here late one afternoon, there was no one else around. The whole place has a very tired and by-gone era feel about it. It is a lovely walk with young kids who are interested in gold, but teenagers will find it boring. Good signs and a self guided walk, dotted with old machinery and rusty items - it’s not a bad way to spend 15mins breaking up a drive.

The signage for the area is old and unreadable but still an interesting area to visit

Sadly all the self-guided signs have been removed so I had no idea what I was looking at. Hopefully, the signs will be restored asap.

We didn't really know what to expect so we were really pleased we visited. Follow the track and read the info.

I wish I'd known about this place earlier, as I've been driving all over the place looking for a running creek or water to pan, and here it is besides the main road - and have since discovered it's a no prospecting" zone - oh well. I looked up gold prospecting forums which said Forest Ck north of the Monster Meeting plaque
