Dinner for 4, service was above average, especially in today's world where most restaurants have a QR code on the table for you to order, this was good old fashioned service, where they explained the food. The food was very nice and tasty, both entrees and main course, price was a little high but that was OK due to the quality. I recommend.

The pizzas were definitely not worth the ridiculous price! The ingredients were below average for example the sausage used or the mozzarella cheese. The dough was very heavy on the stomach. If you pay $35 dollars for a margherita with bufala, you expect it to be the best in town. Very far from it! Not even a drizzle of olive oil on top. Very very disappointed! Don’t go! Save your money and look for another pizza shop that does way better pizzas! There are plenty in Melbourne! Not this one!

400 Gradi is one of those unique mid to high-end restaurants where the extravagant price tag is justified by the quality of their food, but yet when it comes time to pay the bill, you still somehow feel like you've been shortchanged. For further context, I had the Mushroom Risotto and my partner had the Lasagna.Let me first start by saying that the quality of both dishes was absolutely superb. If I was rating this restaurant on the quality of their food alone, it would be a five-star review, no doubt about it.But I think I would be remiss if I didn't echo the sentiments of a lot of other reviews that have come before me: Yes, the quality is fantastic, I don't think many people are going to refute that. But for the vast majority of dishes on their menu, you're paying upwards of $35+, and the serving size you get for that is less than adequate, and that's putting it nicely.I definitely get that it's a trend for high-end restaurants to charge high-end prices for small servings, and then justify that with the 'quality that they're providing'. But whether 400 Gradi can be considered 'upmarket' enough to be able to use that as an excuse, I'm just not sure.Let's be fair here, they're definitely a step up from the fish and chip shop that sells pasta on the side, they're probably even another step up once again from a good portion of the Italian restaurants on Lygon Street. But it's also not Dinner By Heston, Vue De Monde or even Florentino. And the unfortunate reality for 400 Gradi is that there are plenty of Italian restaurants in Melbourne that serve similar quality food to what they do, and at a quarter of the price. And now we get to the reason why this is a 3-star review and not a 4-star review: The 1.5% fee that is added to ALL efpos transactions.Absolutely unacceptable sorry. I understand, as a business owner myself, that it costs you guys to have that Epos terminal, and that it's a business expense that you incur to maintain that service. But when you're asking the kind of prices on your menu that you're asking, I think you can incur the $1 or $2 extra, and just chalk it up to the price of doing business.Ordinarily, this would have been a standard 4-star review, great food, small portion sizes, excessive prices. You're not the first restaurant in Melbourne to which that descriptor applies to, and you're not going to be the last. But it's just that little extra cherry on top of an already excessively expensive cake.Would definitely go back for the food, but probably only at the end of the month when you were having a half-off sale. 3 stars out of 5.

Consistently delicious pizza. Perfect thin and chewy crust. The right amount of that charred taste. That subtle tangy tomato sauce. These guys set the bar for woodfired pizza. This is the yard stick I use for any other woodfired pizza.

Food is good but not amazing for the price you’re paying. Portion size is on the small side. Tartufo Pizza we ordered is $36 with a few sausages on top and some small pieces of porcini mushrooms. Seafood Linguine had fresh ingredients, well cooked but is it worth $42? A bit over priced in my opinion. End up paying $79 with card fee , no drinks , no starter , no side dish. Just 1x pizza and 1x pasta. Is the food delicious enough for me to wanna go back ? No ~

Of the many mysteries in the city of Melbourne, the greatest one is how such a bad pizza like the one from 400 Gradi in Essendon has so many positive reviews. My friends and I tried this place looking for a quality pizza but what we got was not only barely a mediocre one (and I’m being generous, heavy un-chewable base, plastic-y mozzarella, dry, etc) but the cost of that garbage was so ludicrous that the only experience we got from there was one of a rip off. I couldn’t NOT recommend this place more.

Eight of us attended a birthday. We arrived at 1:00.Drinks orders were taken and meals were ordered at 1:15.It wasn’t for another hour until we had our mains served after we made comment that we are anxiously waiting. In the time that we were waiting we were approached three times for drinks and because we were so hungry we had to take advantage to the advantage of the restaurant of course. Maybe they could if asked if we would like some bread while we wait. The main came out at 2:30 and we had an apology from staff to say that our meals were only delayed to allow us to have our entrees (which half of us had had and it finished half an hour earlier(.They presented the cake we had provided and proudly they said it’s $3.50 per slice to serve it to you. Which we kind of laughed in thinking that’s a great way of saying sorry for the delay in our main meal.In return we decided not to buy any more alcoholic drinks and to leave as soon as 3 of us had coffee. What a terrible experience to have for a special birthday, because the restaurant was more preoccupied about us being attended to about their overpriced wine/glass and not having and our mains on time because at the end of the day the profit is in the drinks (in between) and during meals. So in conclusion the pizzas were good but Other Melbourne Italian restaurants have caught up and surpassed their quality from years ago and they will provide a meal quickly so they can turn over the tables for more customers. But Grande 400 was happy for us to sit and wait for meals because they were having a very quiet lunch sitting as evident by the spare tables which took up at least one quarter of the restaurant. No we will not be returning and was disappointing for the birthday.

Would 100% go back again! We ordered a double mozzarella margarita pizza and a spicy salami pizza. These were some of the best pizzas I’ve had. The flavours are so perfectly balanced and the pizza base thin and chewy. It’s a little pricier than your local pizza takeaway joints, but considering the food quality, service and environment, it was totally worth it.
