Sunset Vets Palliative and End of Life Care

Thank you to Sunset Vets for being there over the Christmas/New Year period. My beautiful Amy cat needed a little help getting to heaven, Dr Robyn ensured Amy had a peaceful final journey. I’m so glad that Amy could pass away at home on the deck where she loved to sleep. Thank you again.

Losing your pet is a difficult time but the staff and vets at Sunset made everything so much better, Dr Julia was so caring, sympathetic and supportive that the moment our pet passed was so much easier to bare. We heartbreakingly had to put our beautiful boy Boss to sleep on April 13th at the age of 11 after his palliative care treatment started failing. We wanted Boss to pass peacefully in the comfort of his warm bed at home, surrounded by his loved ones, favourite snacks and toys, and Sunset Vets made this possible.I called Sunset Vets to learn more about the process and see how far in advance I'd need to book an appointment. Boss was deteriorating but I thought we may have 1-2 weeks left with him. I spoke to Shaye on the phone and she was so kind, compassionate and understanding. Unfortunately Boss deteriorated much, much faster than I expected, and I ended up calling Sunset Vets again later that day to try and arrange an ASAP appointment. We could see Boss had take a turn for the worse and we did not want him to suffer any longer.I called them just outside of office hours, distraught that I was needing to make this decision so much sooner than expected. Shaye called me back out of hours, which I so appreciated, and said she would see if she could get a vet out to our home the next day (even though I was not giving much notice). The next morning, Shaye spent so much time trying to find a vet who could travel to our home. She managed to find one who could come at the time we requested. I am so grateful for her assistance and for helping us on such short notice. Shaye also helped me organise a crematorium and for Boss to be picked up from our home. This was so helpful as I couldn't even think straight at the time and never would have been able to organise this myself.Boss's passing was incredibly sad for our family, but also very peaceful for him. The vet who visited us was kind and gentle. He calmly and peacefully drifted off to sleep. I'm so glad Boss could be at home and surrounded by everything he loved. I'm grateful he didn't have to go to the vet, nor did he have to wait very long for his home appointment.I received a follow-up call today from Gayle, who was also so kind and lovely. I really appreciated this follow-up and the reminder about the offer of complimentary grief counselling (which I will be taking up). This experience has been heartbreaking for our family but I truly don't know what we would have done without Sunset Vets. They made this difficult time a little bit easier for us. Thank you for helping us, and for helping our darling boy Boss, at such short notice, and for providing him with such a gentle and peaceful passing.

I cannot speak highly enough of Sunset vets and their support and care when we made the painful decision to let our 16 year old cat, Peanut go. From when I made the initial inquiring call to Sunset, to receiving a welfare call after Peanut had gone, they genuinely understood how difficult it was saying goodbye to Peanut. Dr Kelly who came to our house was happy to let myself and my children talk about our lives with Peanut and then she gently stepped through the process. She was respectful and caring and we greatly appreciated her letting us take our time in saying goodbye. Thank you Dr Kelly and Sunset vets..

Saying goodbye to our beautiful boy George was the hardest thing we've ever had to do but Sunset Vets were nothing but amazing. From the lovely and compassionate people who organised the home visit to Dr Sandra who was so caring and helped our boy pass on in the comfort of our home whilst in our arms, we couldn't have asked for more kind-hearted people to help us through such a devastating experience. You are a truly amazing team of people! Thank you.

What an incredible service Sunset Vets provide! Dr Monika helped us say goodbye to our beautiful Cino, and the entire experience was sensitive and heartfelt from start to finish. We never felt rushed or like Monika was anything other than completely present. She was intuitive and kind to humans and furbabies alike, and by the end it felt we'd know her for years, rather than just the few moments she had with us. She was so attuned to just how long we needed, listened to our stories, and had zero judgement of the many, many tears being shed. Even when we did indicate we were ready, she hid the big scary needle from us and gave our beautiful boy so much dignity at the end that we know he would have appreciated it. Thank you so much for the beautiful gift you've given us Monika.We also can't thank the entire team enough, who have been kind and caring the whole way through the process.We also made the decision to allow for a few hours between when Cino said his final goodbye, and when the body was picked up. This was such a great way to again not feel rushed, to have some alone time with him, and to just generally adjust to what was going on easier. So if you are saying goodbye to your beloved pet, we'd highly recommend doing this as well.

I wish to thank Sunset Vets, particularly Dr Liyan for making a pretty difficult time an easier, less stressful experience. Having his passing happen in the comfort of his daily surroundings as opposed to a stark clinic was an opportunity to which we are very grateful. Oscar made it to 18.5 years and was an old trooper right to the end. We very much miss him being around, but deep down know it is for the best and he is no longer in pain or battling deteriorating health.

We had to put our beloved Nibbler to sleep after 14 wonderful years. He was the most adorable cat ever. He never stopped purring - he did it constantly! He was incredible and so full of love. Dr. Sandra was an amazing vet and made sure he went peacefully. She was so kind and so caring - she let us spend every moment we needed to with him at the end of his life. My housemate and I were there when he was a tiny abandoned kitten and made his very first purr, and I had my head on his chest to hear his very last one. Thank you so much to Sunset Vets for being there for us and for being able to accommodate our late schedule changes. We're so grateful for the kindness of your staff and for helping us through such a difficult moment. If you have a pet in need of end-of-life care Sunset Vets is absolutely the right choice. Thank you again Dr. Sandra, you were an angel.

Thank you to Sunset Vets for letting me spend a precious few last moments in the comfort of our home with my beloved cat.I appreciate everyones compassion through the process, Dr Rose was such a lovely presence at a challenging time.I highly recommend.
