I arrived to my first lesson with Wayne a broken girl, one that had been left traumatised by another motorbike instructor from a now-defunct riding school. This so-called instructor berated me and could not fathom how I managed to crash through a fence after being told to “suck it up and just ride” 90 minutes into the lesson.But I couldn’t have made a better decision to book in with Wayne a few weeks after at Elite’s Joondalup location. I was upfront with him about that outrageous experience and he never once judged me for crashing through that fence.In fact, Wayne took his time showing me the basics of riding and never pushed me past my limits. Until I was ultimately comfortable, he never once rushed me out of the security blanket and safety of the empty parking lot where he showed me the ropes.Once we were out on the real roads, Wayne did everything possible to make me enjoy every single ride – from the (side-splittingly awful) dad jokes that helped distract me from my nerves, to the very well-articulated instructions that came with every new skill learnt along the way.As a time-poor mum of young children, who had every intention to get her motorbike license before her 40th birthday, it took me a good 11 months of lessons before I took my test. During this time, we shifted our lessons from Joondalup to Midland and then to Mirrabooka. But every single one of those weekly lessons developed my confidence and skill at a pace that I always enjoyed, albeit punctuated with some of the most hilarious and entertaining conversations I’ve had in my busy weeks.Wayne unwittingly helped me get over my anxieties about riding on two wheels by always treating me like a friend rather than a student. Yes, he’d tell me off if I did something silly or dangerous, but I never once felt belittled. His demeanour is to be applauded as I am a frustrating overthinker.Ultimately, I am now a proud holder of an RE licence thanks to his pragmatic and relaxed approach to teaching. I highly recommend anyone who is searching for an instructor that you look forward to having lessons with, and one that will help you feel at ease in a completely foreign situation, to book in with Wayne at Elite. But only if you enjoy the daddest of dad jokes.

Wayne was a great instructor, very knowledgeable and always willing to help in any way possible to make you feel comfortable! Even brings good energy and enjoys a good laugh and chat during the lessons! Cannot recommend himself and the team highly enough!
