Boonah Airfield

Well maintained strip, Airsport Queensland were great hosts. The strip can get busy in the weekend.

Today I had my first ever Gliding experience at Boonah Airfield. My niece had done the same thing a few days prior and loved it. As she highly recommended it, I made the rather rash statement that I would do it also. I have been for flights in small and even smaller planes, all of which have had engines and propellers, over many years, and always enjoyed them.My wonderfully very experienced pilot, Mick Mac, explained many things before we got into the glider, which was surprisingly comfortable because you are partially reclined, and strapped in with a harness.We were towed off and up into the air by a small plane, for about 5 minutes, then the tow rope was let go and we were under our own power, flying in thermals under clouds. It was a beautiful sunny day, and it felt to me like floating on a very calm sea.Mick talked to me the entire flight and explained everything. He asked if I wanted to do a loop de loop which I did. It was superb. No words. We did anotherone. Then a sort of figure of 8 Incredible.One of the most enjoyable experiences of my life and I have had a few.
