This is probably a difficult restaurant to review. My first impression is that the place is definitely popular with full seating and lines on certain days. The portion sizes are enormous albeit the prices are quite high. As the name suggests, this place is prized for its north eastern cuisine, it's fried and stewed beef bones, and my favorite, the mushroom soups and deep fried mushrooms.Despite being slightly oily, I would reckon the food is alright. Now the reason I'm giving this only 2 stars, is because of the utensils and crockery. The cups and bowls appear to have chips a cracks, revealing the metal under the enamel. I'm not sure if it is intentional for the crockery to look vintage, but there are clear signs of rusting which is quite off putting when you're trying to drink from a cup.

Disappointed, just over $150 for this. Advised the waitress there wasn't much ribs with meat. Was told they weigh in at 1.2kg raw. We seperated it all and they were mostly bone with very little meat whatsoever. Definitely not enough to serve one person not to mention a party of 3. Sad that an opportunity was given for them to address it and they chose not to. In hindsight, they did place lumps of dough on the edge to cook which was different and the overall flavour was good, but the small ratio of meat was the main value issue. I would order something different if I ever returned

Very authentic northeast cuisine. Quite impressed finding this place which has localised food from northeast part of China. Would strongly recommend for people who'd love to try something new.

Food taste ok. Food hygiene is the worst. We all got diarrhea after the dinner. Also, 3% surcharge for credit card payment is ridiculous.

Ordered the pork knucle, cabbage soup and deep fried crispy pork fillets. We really like the pork knucle and the cabbage soup. The pork knuckle was so good that we both agreed: one person could finish the whole plate with a bowl of rice. The cabbage soup was really amazing as well. However, we are not a huge fan of the pork fillets because they are a bit too sour.Overall food was pretty good but it did take a bit of a wait (45mins for the pork fillets to arrive). Please leave enough time if you wanna dine in this restaurant.

Very very very show. Need to wait at least half an hour for a simple dish. Terrible customer service, don't have 5s to wait for you to finish your sentences. Not recommended!

Never had this style before. Lots of star anise which I am not a fan of. But, the orange flavored fish was very good. The other fish was harder to eat but good. Dumplings great. Hot and sour good but too much star anise for me but it may be the style. The pork cold cuts reminds me of the same dish in Austria for supper on Sunday.Give a try ! I should have tried the cumin lamb I would get that next time.

It’s a home cook style Chinese restaurant and probably for the UTS students who misses their home town in north-eastern China. To me the flavours are quite ordinary and too oily. The Preserved Sour Vegetables with Pork Ribs Stew was tasty and it’s the best of the three dishes we have ordered. The Spicy Crispy Chicken with soft bones was overloaded with cumin and oil. It wasn’t very spicy and not at all crispy as the chicken pieces were drenched in oil and the supposedly crispy skin has become soggy. The steamed egg custard was quite bland and oily as well, tasted mainly of soy sauce. The serving portions were big but it wasn’t that cheap for a restaurant targeted at students.I was too shocked at seeing the rusty cups and plates. We asked for takeaway plastic cups for water and made sure our bowls have no rust!

Large servings so be prepared to take food back home. Ordering via an iPad from the friendly staff and I was not disappointed by the menu with a variety of dishes to choose from including many Northeast specialties food. The decor being vibrant, unique and appealing. A great dining experience.
