One of the best sushi and sashimi takeaway places around this suburb. Fresh and tasty, just make sure to go in before the lunch rush for more options. Order ahead of time if you want a larger or custom platter. Staff are always friendly. The onigiri are great too. Add a tub of black sesame and green tea ice cream to your basket, you’ll thank me later!

A genuine Japanese Grocery Store with a in house Sushi Chef. My go to place to takeaway lunch for kids after Saturday classes. With 4 picky kids, Ichiba has something for everyone. They make Pork or Chicken Katsu Curry on rice, Sukiyaki Beef on rice, Karaage Chicken on rice and Eel rice bowl and also have freshly made sashimi, nigiri and sushi rolls. You can even order sushi platters. The prices are very good with Chicken Katsu Curry rice priced at $12.80. They sell out fast because it’s such a great deal! The shop is located opposite Maccas on Whitehorse Rd in Balwyn, next to the fruit shop.

I spoiled myself again with those fresh and delicious sashimi from Ichiba Junction!What can I say? LOVE Love love how carefully and lovingly they were prepared and presented. I always buy the Australian made gyoza when I have a space in my fridge, especially the quick and easy vegetarian quinoa gyoza. Lots of genuine Japanese goodies in the store, reminds me of the samples my late father used to bring home from his business trips in Japan. The $2.80 Australian made Kirin Ichiban beer completes my Sunday night banquet.

It’s a very successful Japanese grocery store with sushi kitchen in the neighbourhood! The pricing is very reasonable, there is also a wide range of fresh food! The frozen section is my favourite because of the variety of products like nato, dumplings, frozen seafood and beef! Highly recommend the 50 pieces frozen pork gyoza that comes with a special gyoza sauce! I went back couple times for the fresh Wagyu, I was considering not sharing this information because there are limited stocks only. But it is the best Wagyu I have had, I chose the sukiyaki pack and it taste like the juiciest meat that melt in your mouth without chewing.

We enjoy the fresh made sushi very much and I buy every week for my kids, however, the price is getting absurd, my wife grabbed a curry chicken lunch box today，the price went from $12.50 (reasonable) to $18.00, which is even more expensive than eating the similar dish in a Japanese restaurant. I understand some items (Waygu beef) are shipped from Japan directly which incurs additional expense. Come on! It is just a normal fried chick curry, the chicken is from local ingredient and the curry sauce is a few dollars per pack from which you can make a big whole pot.

I stumbled into this gem-of-a-store when I was on my way to another appointment that day - I'm super glad that I did. Not only does it have some very hardworking, polite & dedicated staff, but their food is exquisite, especially for its price. Ranging from fresh onigiri, sushi, bento boxes, takoyaki, gyoza, fruit jellies & custard-filled fish pastries, every item is well-prepared & tastes fantastic. Whenever I feel like a Japanese treat or meal I make sure to visit Ichiba once a week. Superb (& closely suburban)! :)
