DO NOT BUY FRESH CHICKEN FROM DRAKES NEWTON Went to cook dinner tonight and had to go to Drakes as the chicken I bought yesterday stunk, this is not the first time, happens regularly, they just say sorry. IM SURE MR DRAKE WOULD NOT FEED IT TO HIS DOGS BUT IS SELLING IT TO HIS CUSTOMERS. Usually happens with chicken but also fish and frankfurts.Managers dont care when you return the product, tonight the nightfill manager Joseph said its chicken they buy in already packed as though its out of their control, its also happened with meats from the deli in the past. They even had the nerve to charge me the difference of $1.65 for my replacement.

Foodland is my favourite store. However this Drakes Newton is a big version of Drakes store on the lines of Walmart usa who too have some big stores. Lottt of discounted items.

I Love shopping here especially when I can fill up 2 or 3 trolleys and buy lots of amazing products. The Meat is excellent here too, My mum used to bring me here as a little baby and I still remember eating Ravioli every night.

One of my local shops, pretty good Foodland, I buy fruit n vegetables there occasionally. They have most things I need day to day. Not as good as Norwood, Frewville, or Pasadena but way way closer ;)

Make sure to check 'use by' dates carefully. Don't assume short dated stock, including fresh prepared meals, have been marked down, even on the day they expire.

This Drakes store is amazing. So many food choices. Even if you go in for 1 item you get stuck viewing the fantastic produce, the huge selection in the deli part all the salamis, continental sausage and the rest. You come out with not just your one item but many more. If you have not been, worth a look, you won't be dissapointed.

Nice shop Staff friendly and helpful. Plenty of operator checkouts.

This Drakes store Newton sold me some meat expires on the 17th chicken to be exact and it was spoilt on the 16th. and when I rang up for a refund it was an online order they had the nerve to tell me there meat only last 4 days. I said it's only been 2 days it smells like rotten eggs. and they were not going to refund me the woman on the phone saying that her meat smells like that she leaves it out for a while and the smell goes away. It's gas packed that's what the smell is she said if you not going to use it within 2 days Ishould have freezed it. and next time they wouldn't refund me at all if I get rotten meat that's in date they said it's within 24hrs of expiring it's my own fault. Well I'm not going back to Drakes again rude staff and I'm reporting this store and the person on phone.And this store is listed on online payment as Newton Foodland not Drakes is this a scam. My Bank statement says Newton Foodland.A telltale sign of bad chicken is a foul smell. Raw, fresh chicken will have a very mild smell or none at all. If your chicken has a very apparent smell, such as a sour or sulfur-like smell similar to rotten eggs, throw it out. However, you should never rely on smell alone to determine if chicken is safe to eat.
