Extremely interesting make sure you have plenty of time to experience everything there is to offer, just amazing that it still operated until the 1990's. Great tour guide.

Fantastic night, highly recommend the ghost tour. Guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.

We went on the overnight paranormal investigation. Tour guide was lovely and knowledgeable regarding the history of the building. Things seemed to be quite active during the tour at the start of the night with some items swinging on their own in the kitchen section and a couple of participants reported being touched. During the investigation we didn’t have too much happen. The only let down was the lack of quality investigative tools. There was no ovilus, EVP recorder or even a basic spirit box available to use.

Great tour and the gentleman who guided the tour was fantastic. Very recommended for anyone who would like to know a piece of the history of the area.

We (group of 5) did the J Ward lunatic asylum night tour (not the overnight one!) last night. Fantastic and informative! Great fun and well explained. Good pace - enough time to go into several rooms and areas on your own. Photos and video welcome, just not of the actual tour, understandably.There are two energy detectors and a spirit box to be used and shared around (although last night people tended to just hang onto them - I was given the energy reader but couldn't hold it and take photos at the same time - lol). Our spirit box chatted constantly through the night - was a bit difficult to make our partly because of the acoustics and people talking at the same time. I'm more if a sceptic nowadays, but - unless the equipment was rigged - something seemed to be detected all night long!Our guides were great - willing to take questions and giving advice without being too pushy or trying to convince of us anything. Nothing theatrical. Great to learn about the history of the 'patients'/prisoners.Group is hit and miss - depends on who comes.Finished after 12am, so late night. Consider staying in Ararat. Well worth it!

Absolutely fantastic, 2 hours is not enough time to see everything. Tour guide was great, shared so much. Answered all our questions. Will be going again.

Just awesome! The people putting this on are so down to earth and friendly. Had a great time discovering the history of the prison and sleeping in a cell!We were treated lik adults and trusted to explore by ourselves. Super cool.Thank you to all the wonderful staff!

Great tour I had here the other night with my friends, good tour guide people, were friendly and for volunteers, they love there jobs, I thought that was pretty cool, made the night good.
