(2.5 stars)Bekya Egyptian Spice is a small chain delivering what they term “Egyptian street food”. Summer Hill, on the edge of the Flour Mill development, represents their third Sydney outlet. The luminously aqua space offers up limited indoor dining, though I suspect there might be intention to expand into outdoor tables on the terrace when the weather improves. Their point of difference is the freshly made flatbread—white or wholemeal—coming out of a little glass box at the end of the front counter. It’s served warm in brown paper bags with lunch “plates” that turn out to be disposable boxes with clear plastic lids, even for those who opt to dine in.My chicken shish tawook plate ($15.90) included a charred skewer of chook over under-seasoned (and thus bland) Egyptian rice dotted with fried onions, garlic and seasoned vermicelli noodles, a too-wet carrot and cranberry salad where the jewel-like red fruit had barely any flavour at all, and a bell pepper red dip, mahammara, that should have been served with my dining companion’s chicken shawarma plate ($15.90). In his box, mild shreds of marinated chicken were teamed with the same rice, a tabouli salad dominated by quinoa, and my selected dip, babaghanouj.You can make these bland but healthy meal boxes taste better with a harissa ($2) add-on, and upsize them to a meal with good seasoned fries and a drink for a buck or two more. Vegans are also catered for in the intensely aqua space. However to win over the area’s foodies, and compete with the tasty food on offers at the Flour Mill Markets Summer Hill, they will need to concentrate on improving flavour.

So damn tasty. We got the chicken shawarma plate and haloumi and it was such a perfect meal, can't wait to have it again! So nice having this lovely spot right on our doorstep in Summer Hill.

tried for the first time today and couldn’t be happier. portions were big but not unmanageable, everything was delicious! the garlic sauce and the lamb was my favourite, but everything was amazing. we got the mixed plate and added haloumi on the side. no notes. we love you thank you!!!

My partner and I would come here regularly when we lived in the area and returned tonight because we've missed it since we moved. The food has always been amazing - so flavourful, delicious, a lot of variety and generous serving sizes. Wally the owner is so accommodating, lovely and friendly. He has always remembered us and my dietary requirements and gone above and beyond to accommodate my needs. The service is excellent, the atmosphere is wonderful and fresh, and they have plenty of gluten free, dairy free, vegan and vegetarian options. You can't really go wrong with the menu - the plates are fantastic, all the chicken is tender, and the chips, vine leaves, rice, salads, dips, meatballs, flatbread (including GF), everything is delicious. Whether you want a meal or a snack, or just some friendly faces, I highly recommend!

Delicious Egyptian food. Chicken Shawarma was a highlight. Large portion size. Egyptian plate includes falafel and your choice of salad - fatoush was chosen. Freshly baked pita bread was still warm and nice and soft. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Look forward to their upcoming dinner menu launch and alcohol license.

I had tried Bekya at Tramaheds a couple of years ago and remember enjoying the food. Happy to report that they have managed to maintain the same level of quality and taste. The service at summer hill is friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend trying Bekya if you haven't been there yet

its an amazing experience!!We had the Chicken shawarma plate it was super nice!' all plate come with a bread and rice for the plate. especially Muhammara sauce was very great.Friendly staff & Amazing food!Thanks Bekya ! I would def comeback soon!

Really beautiful fresh delicious food. My daughter and I chose the vegetarian options and adored the vibrant falafels and beetroot hummus. Our dishes came with two super fresh flaky warm flatbreads. We will come next time with more people so we can try more. We chose to sit in the outdoor corridor of tables.
