Cocktail was good, food was pretty good. Atmosphere was good pretty welcoming but found paying pretty difficult, once we were served mains staff seemed to disappear ended up heading inside still took another 15 just to pay.

5 of us for lunch and to start we had bretzel and pickles, Mac n cheese croquettes and chickpea croquettes. I thought the bretzel a waste of time and didn't try Mac n cheese croquettes as bacon crumbs and I'm vegetarian but chickpea croquettes were nice. For mains husband had seafood linguine, which he thought was average while I had the pea and mint risotto which was too salty for me and nearly inedible. While the others had pork knuckle, bacon cheeseburger and another pea risotto and they all liked their meals. We also shared order of fries which were great. However I don't know what was going on in kitchen but our mains arrived at 3 different times, and by the time I got mine, 20 minutes after the first they had finished their meals. This is really really bad and should not happen. Then I decided to have apple strudel, which was burnt, while husband had cheese platter. And I must say best value cheese platter I've come across in a long time, $19 and it was really for 4 not 1! We also had drinks, cokes, lemonades, Sparkling and coffees (flat whites, cappuccinos and decaf soy latte). The place is huge and nicely decorated however I wouldn't come again for a meal just for nibbles with a drink. $315.

Went here with a big party for a work function and we’re seated on the balcony. The view on the water was quite spectacular! And the drinks are incredible to match! However, this is where the good vibes end.The food was sub-par at best. I had the pea and zucchini risotto, presentation is awful.. it looks like a big plate of green mush. Flavour wasn’t that great either and there’s so much sauce it might as well have been soup.My partner had the chicken schnitzel, it was just okay. The gravy was all at the bottom of the plate, not a great presentation at all, and the flavour was incredibly bland. The service wasn’t exactly great either. In all fairness, 2/3 waitresses were very nice. But one had an angry face all night and when we asked her for drinks/food/cutlery she was incredibly cold and rude. She also took plates away without asking if we were finished, which we weren’t! They also missed a good 5-6 orders and when we brought it to their attention, they argued with us that some of those ordered were fulfilled.. do you see a plate in front of them?! No, so don’t argue with hungry customers.Overall, this is a great place for some weekend pre-drinks, but wouldn’t recommend it for dinner! Also, if this is supposed to be a German themed cuisine, I definitely didn’t pick up on that!

We had a nice night on Saturday, Staff were very approachable with good humour. The food was delicious - would recommend the Veal Schnitzel! Nice Apple Cider on tap and reasonably priced bottles of wine. Include a few Fireball shots and it felt like they had everything we wanted. Will definitely be back.

Ooft. The beer selection lacks IPAs and the pork knuckle was really very poor - came out drenched in apple sauce which should certainly be on the side given how divisive it is, and overall had a strong taste of burnt electronics for some reason. Yeah, nah. Left 85 percent of it on the plate, which is a shame given what it cost.

Great location and venue and obviously huge selection of beersThe food was unfortunately just okay - Sunday roast was nothing special, the schnitzel was not bad but the potatoes were overdosed in herbs. I think if you wanted a German style beer hall there's better options, and if you wanted pub food there's other options tooIf you just want beer then good selections !

First visit back post-covid, booked seats on the balcony. The atmosphere was as we remembered, but have to say we were a little disappointed with the food. We decided to go with old favourites- veal and chicken schnitzels. The meat itself was well made and prepared but the sides were bland and not particularly plentiful. There is an extensive and interesting range of beers on offer as well. I have given four stars because l have visited several times and always enjoyed it, but this time something seemed a little lacking.

Went to this place on a recommendation that the pork knuckles were of a decent size and good chewing. No pork hocks!! Asked the waiter if she could give us a moment so we can work out what we want to choose next. I went the shank, better half went the pea and zucchini risotto and our friends went with a chicken snitty and the prawn and mussel linguine. Shank and snitty were so so, the two pasta dishes were ok. We also ordered a cheese platter for starters. Not bad but have had better and cheaper. Sorry guy's I can't rate you 4 stars. The staff are friendly and polite. I won't recommend for now. 6/10

Hophaus is a German inspired bar and eatery situated at the mezzanine level of the Southgate Restaurant Precinct on Southbank Promenade. With a more contemporary take on European Beer Halls, it features a large outdoor heated terrace with views overlooking the Yarra River to the the city. The bar offers 14 draught taps with a rotation of some of Europe’s best beers – Czech, Spanish, German, Scottish, Irish and Dutch beers and of course a few Australian brews. The menu consists of a few sharing dishes including some German favourites and on Sundays you can enjoy their Rotisserie of the Day with all of the trimmings for $30.You can’t not start with a Bretzel, it was crunchy yet fluffy inside and just the right amount of salt. It came with regular butter instead of whipped which didn’t bother us. I didn’t get the cheese or the bacon flavour from the Croquettes but it was definitely nice and creamy. My favourite dish to order at a German restaurant has to be the simple Chicken Schnitzel. This one was satisfyingly crispy, served with a deep jus and fresh house slaw. The Pork Knuckle also had a super crisp outer with the meat moist and falling off the bone. Both dishes could have done with more flavour and seasoning - but neither were disappointing. For dessert we ordered the Apple Strudel, it was sadly served luke-warm and again lacked flavour, mostly tasting like plain stewed apples. They are currently experiencing some supplier issues and trying to find the best ones for their cuisine.Hophaus is a perfect spot for after work drinks or a casual dinner. A reliable spot for a simple feed with a view and friendly service.⭐️ 3.3/5 (Good)
