My girlfriend and I drove up to Jindabyne from Melbourne in July 2017 to do the summit walk of Mt. Kosciusko (Australia's highest peak!). Upon arriving at our hotel we were told we could not climb to the summit, as it was closed for the winter after the long weekend in June. Very disappointed, we tried the town Information Centre to be told the very same thing. We were advised to do some snow shoeing on some trails at Perisher instead.Luckily, we happened to walk in to Wilderness Sports store in Jindabyne (Nuggets Crossing) intending to hire some snow shoes to walk some trails at Perisher. We were met by the very friendly Bruce and we explained our disappointment at coming all the way from Melbourne and not being able to do Mt.K summit. To our surprise Bruce explained that in fact on this particular day it was PERFECT to summit Mt.K and that the snow trails at Perisher we had been recommended didn't even have snow on them at the time!!! He explained we would have to access the mountain via Thredbo ski resort and take a chair lift part the way up to get onto the trail. (Thredbo by phone AND at the ticket booths also tried to discourage us from going up there for some reason). We ended up having an amazing day walk up to the summit in perfect weather (check out the photos below). We would highly recommend you go see Bruce at Wilderness Sports in Jindabyne FIRST, if you're planning on doing any hiking or snow sports in the area. He's the man!

Great knowledge, experience, advice and extremely helpful service. Wilderness Sports has a good range of quality camping and hiking equipment.Over the years, it’s become our go to place for equipment and advice when we visit Jindy and even online or over the phone when we aren’t in the Snowies.Where possible, I make it a point to do business here to support this valuable resource.

Very disappointing. Tried to arrange a back country tour (on Monday for Thu) and the guide was working out the details with shop owner and was supposed to confirm details. Spoke to him again on Wed pm and again was promised he would come back with confirmation and details later that evening. I heard nothing, not even a courtesy text to say it wasn't going ahead. By this point it was far to late to try to work out an alternative option. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I would recomend avoiding.

Bruce was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, he helped us get the right equipment for our hikes as we’ve never been to this area before.

We wanted to hike Mt Koz 1st time, highest summit in Australia, to explore our own backyard this year.We went to Wilderness Sports at Nuggets Crossing Shopping Village, Jindabyne (where Woolworths is), to receive extremely helpful advise & suggestion. We met Bruce, hired some gears from him & bought items that we can use for next trip or consumed during the journey.Bruce’s advise & gears that we hired saved us! Made our journey a lot safer & more comfortable.Entire journey from Charlotte Pass, hiking to Mt Koz Sunmit was 9kms, took us 6 hours, because there was thick snow at the top final few kms & the slope was pretty steep. We had hired snow boots & walking poles from Bruce. We didn’t get wet or slipped.Thank you Jindabyne’s Wilderness Sports, Bruce & his staff. We will be back same time next year to walk the other 2 hiking tracks to explore our own backyard more.

Spent a afternoon on a snowshoe outing in Perisher Velley with lovely guide from Wilderness Sports. Very comfortable snow shoes and poles. Well organised for my group of 5. Great weather and crisp scenery. Wonderful snow sport alternative to downhill skiing. Walked trails through snow gums, along ridges and then down past sparking streams. Finally saw an alpine grasshopper. Thoroughly recommend.

I went there to buy new mattress because of the problems of punctures. It was not only the fact that Bruce (owner) helped me to find out punctures but took it his own business to figure out refound even I'm from overseas with the product!! Saving the day he let me borrow one of his mattress to survive before getting things sorted out.I could tell the store was busy but they still got the time for me. The store is also super versitale so, if you need anything around outdoor you'll find it here. From climbing, ski touring to basic camping life.

I went in to the shop to ask about a backcountry tour. They were extremely busy but Lee ( also a guide) grabbed my details. I was flexible and understood it might not happen due to logistics. In the end Lee made heaps of effort and we got out today. It was an epic day out of guthega with a destination of Mt Anton which we smashed through and hit up twynam as well. Very impressed with Lee's approach to the moutians. Safety was as perimount as the experience.

Cool little shop with lots of useful outdoor equipment. Stoked with the service. Bruce was extremely helpful and hooked us up last-minute for a walk up the mountain in the snow without any hassles. Shop dog was also friendly!
