Our very old ducted evaporative cooling system had not been used in a year and upon attempting to use it, it did not turn on and indicated a “service” note on the controller. The agent over the phone charged a $140 call out/booking fee prior to sending out a technician to come out to our property and investigate the issue. We asked how much a service roughly costs but the phone consultant said he could not give us a figure.The technician came out two days later, had a look at the controller, climbed the roof and claimed he reset the system but nothing changed. He claimed he is unsure how old the unit is but said it looks over 10 years old (we could have told him that) and wrote up an invoice with the fee for a service ($990) and said the service may not fix the issue, in which case they would replace the unit (for $6590) and will not charge the service fee. Shopped around and found some far more reasonable prices for a service.The technician did not even run a diagnostic check although we were charged a call out fee,. He climbed the roof, had a peek at the system, claimed he is unsure what’s going on with it, wrote up some ridiculously overpriced quotes and left all in under 10 minutes. Save yourself the time and money, hire someone else.
