I recently stumbled upon this rather peculiar cafe and it was quite an experience... in a not-so-positive way. the shop had a somewhat dingy atmosphere that left me feeling a bit uneasy.When it comes to coffee, this place offers something quite different, but not necessarily in a good way. The flavours were odd and confusing, and the aroma didn't have that inviting quality I'm used to. It's clear that the place prides itself on their coffee selection and preparation techniques, even if the coffee machine is one of the older ones.The service was average at best. Everyone is somewhat friendly, but their attitude seemed tinged with impatience. While they attempted to explain the different coffee options, I felt like a burden with my questions and it lacked warmth and understanding.This cafe won't appeal to everyone. if you're curious to experience a Melbourne coffee shop that seems stuck in the past, albeit not in the most charming way, then this might be the place for you. It's like stepping into a time capsule while sipping on a lukewarm cup of coffee.All in all, my visit was a rather weird experience. While the flavours left much to be desired, the ambience had a certain offbeat appeal. So whether you're a coffee connoisseur or a novice like me, I cautiously suggest giving this shop a try and forming your own opinion. Just be prepared for a less-than-stellar experience.

Best coffee in Surrey (I’ve tried them all multiple times) and surrounding areas. Lovely family business. Coffee is EXCELLENT. Service is amazing and I love the feeling of the place in and outside! ❤️ ☕️

Lovely laid back atmosphere, I felt very comfortable here. Good music at a good volume (noticeable but not distracting). I had a sriracha chicken toastie which was EXCELLENT.

Steam Coffee Co is a favourite Surry Hills cafe offering creative menu with a good range of dishes to choose from and well brewed specialty coffee.Johnny always changes up his single origins and serves 2 house blends to choose from as well as filter batch brew so you will never get bored with his offerings.Try an espresso fredo with a single origin if you love coffee you will love this drink!

Had a great brunch here. The dishes were clean and tasty and well proportioned with all nice nourishing ingredients and little filler. It has a nice cosy atmosphere and the wall art brings the interior a lot of character. The coffee was very nice but not hot enough. It probably would have been perfect if it was warmer. We also had to wait a while for our food despite coming at a quiet time. The quality of the dish made up for this though and left us with a good impression.

Seriously good coffee and good vibes only! Sam and Jonny know how to make very good coffee with no cutting corners. Jonny’s coffee knowledge and passion sometimes feels overlooked as he slings latte after extra hot latte, to your liking no doubt. But next time you go to Steam, ask about trying a alternative milk or a deliciously good black single origin coffee. You will not be disappointed. After all, a good barista is worth its weight in happiness! For those who care about your coffee you will definitely find an ally here.

Fantastic coffee and fresh food cooked up by one of the owner's who are very friendly, obliging. It's down the road from me so a great local cafe where I can take my dog and sit outside enjoying the sunshine or inside where it's warm and welcoming.

Order a mocha and a soy caramel latte, along with a halloumi egg wrap and a raspberry croissant. Whacked it out the park. We thoroughly enjoyed everything and it was topped with excellent service.We will definitely be back.
