Technique Jiu Jitsu

Dave and Sabah have a lovely gym, clean facilities and up-to date and modern programs for children, women and adults, both fundamental and advanced classes. I have been training at this academy for 6 years, my youngest has been training under Sabahs children’s program for several years and he is always excited and engaged in the classes. My oldest has just moved from junior jits to fundamentals and has had a huge boost in confidence and self belief since learning Dave’s adult curriculum. I have regularly attended jiu jitsu finesse, fundamentals and advanced classes multiple times a week and always find Dave to be encouraging and supportive. Dave is also very articulate with eye for detail when it comes to refining technique. Both Sabah and Dave are welcoming, supportive and encouraging.

I've been training in martial arts for about 17 years now, and training with Dave for about half of that. Never had a better jiu jitsu coach, and when I decided to pursue jiu jitsu as my primary form of training about 7 years ago, tracked Dave down as I didn't want to train under anyone else.Dave's technical understanding and implementation is some of the best in Australia, and just gets better as time goes on and he improves himself. That, mixed with the awesome team that train there on the regular - many of whom I call friends now - makes the school very easy to recommend.Wouldn't train anywhere else. Don't want to train anywhere else. Thanks guys!

A great place to train! I originally came in for self defence classes but quickly fell in love with the sport as well thanks to the excellent coaching provided by Dave and his team.The community here is amazing. More experienced practitioners are always willing to lend a helping hand and I've been able to develop some amazing friendships with my teammates along my jiu-jitsu journey.It's a testament to the hard work Dave has put into the academy over the years that we get to train in such a supportive environment while also receiving elite coaching from one of Australia's best.

Dave and Sabah have created a fantastic atmosphere and culture at this gym. Extremely clean, friendly and inviting environment. I have been training with Dave for over 10 years, he is an extremely knowledgeable coach and someone i consider a great friend!There are also plenty of very friendly members who are generous with their time which makes coming to classes and learning fun.Highly recommend giving Technique Jiu Jitsu a go for anyone interested in starting BJJ, or looking for a new gym. 10/10

About a year ago, I attended my first ever jiu jitsu class. Although initially nervous, I found that every technique was taught in a way that was slow and controlled by the head instructor, David. This helped me to find a new passion and meet friends of all ages.David also teaches proper etiquette in taking care of yourself and your training partner while sparring, so you always feel safe.I recommend this gym to anyone who wants to try something new or refine their technical skills as David is extremely knowledgeable.

It is amazing how many great reviews start to appear all of a sudden after the business receive a negative, yet honest review. 4 months since last review and now it is clear that people have been ASKED to leave a good review to try and hide one negative feedback.Technique Jiu Jitsu hasn’t been a very welcoming place for my kids that have trained jiu jitsu in another gym for years. Both my sons never really enjoyed training at Technique Jiu Jitsu.. there was no passion on teaching kids from the coaches. It was more “Do as I Say” or the highway. Do not recommend it!!!

One of the best schools I’ve been to. The course structure especially for those beginning their jiujitsu journey is the most comprehensive and gives those beginning a solid foundation and understanding before moving into the advanced class

I have been training at Technique Jiu-Jitsu for a little over a year. My first day at the class was daunting but the second I sat on the mat and everyone introduced themselves I felt very welcomed. Once the class started I knew I'd made the right choice. David (and the senior members) have an amazing understanding of the techniques that are being taught but more importantly they're able to tailor their teaching method if a student is having difficulty grasping the technique. A few months ago I was struggling to fully understand a technique, David noticed this, the following day he restructured the lesson in a manner that made it much more malleable, I totally understood everything due to a simple adjustment to his teaching technique.Some academy's regurgitate the same curriculum, I found Technique Jiu-Jitsu evolves their technique, always improving, and constantly adapting.I couldn't recommend this academy enough, it's changed my life for the better and I've made some great friends in the process. 10 out of 10.

I've been to a few martial arts gyms and have happily settled at Technique Jiu Jitsu. The academy's ability to teach proper form, connecting moves back to core fundamental concepts, as well as underlying philosophies, goes to show that they really live and breathe this martial art. The community here is great; everyone is friendly and looks out for you. The emphasis on safety, from drilling to sparring, is one of the biggest reasons why I call this place home.

I was alerted to a review posted on here which is a bit of a hit piece on Dave and Technique Jiu Jitsu and its members.I've known Dave for a long time and respect him immensely. He's very insightful and cerebral in all life matters not only BJJ. But it's in BJJ and its teachings where he finds his passion. As students we see that passion whether it's in developing new methods, helping us to improve or giving us technical advice, and sometimes, lo and behold, yelling at us from the other side of the mat to not continue a move lest injury results. Is that authoritarian, or a black belt with 25 years experience on the mat and outside, ensuring his students are learning correctly and safely?In martial arts there is no room for vagary or imprecision when movements can cause serious injury. Therefore at times, there needs to be forthright and clear instruction, which Dave provides.Many members of Technique Jiu Jitsu have come from other gyms and they marvel at how professionally the club is run, the art is taught, the generosity and friendliness of the members, but most importantly, they have trust in their training partners. That trust is imbued to the members by Dave.
