We elected not to go for the tasting menu as we were in a group of 4 and wanted some variety in our dishes so we could share. We had a good variety of some of the finest Italian food including the following entree: Fremantle Sardine 'in short and chickpea panelled, Grilled octopus, Wood baked eggplant, Zucchini flower. For the pasta we had: Asparagus, leek & ricotta agnolotti, Squid ink tagliolini, and Rigatoni. We also had Jack's Creek Striploin with insalata caprese and that was delicious.I rate the food, though it took a long time to come out and the service wasn't that great, especially when we told them we ordered the zucchini flower and the waiter denied taking the order and made some other excuses. There's a lot of tables in a small space and it is likely they couldn't keep up production for a near full capacity restaurant as I looked around and no one had any food for more than half an hour. Definitely worth booking, as we have returned at least double digit times. It’s a small hole in the wall but definitely worth going. The staff is friendly and helpful.Personal favourite include: zucchini flower, baked eggplant, Tagliolini and the chef was very accommodating for making a vegetarian version of the pasta.Worth trying this place, as I am positive you’ll go again.

Fantastic food and awesome atmosphere. A lot of reviews note the serving sizes are small which i agree with, so we ordered some bread and olives upfront, and left very satisfied. Great service. Steak and silverbeet main delicious. Tiramisu was one if the best have ever had. Looking forward to going back.

This place was fabulous - I had the Barramundi and it was delicious. Followed up with the cannoli for dessert and couldn’t have been more pleased. It’s a bit crowded and noisy - we were sitting by the kitchen but that actually added to the experience as we could watch the cook at work. Very attentive service. Would love to go back.

I’ve never written a negative review; however I am compelled to share today’s awful experience at Italian & Sons. I’ve been dining here since the restaurant opened in 2011. Our meal was forgotten, mains arrived an hour after entrees. My soggy pasta with two small pieces of crab was that bad, they gladly took it away & made it again, which meant I ate after my guest had finished his meal. With zero offer of an apology or acknowledgment they have lost my patronage for life. I look forward to sharing my experience with all my family, friends & colleagues.

Simple, classic, and good tasting Italian food. The tiramisu is absolutely to die for. The only downside I have to mention is that the meals are quite small and I was still hungry after the entree, main and dessert.Otherwise the space itself is dim and moody (in a good way!) and the staff were nice and knowledgeable about wine.

I'm a bit surprised at some the reviews here - our meal was very good , and good value for the quality. The service was excellent, and we were fed in pretty quick time on a night when the restaurant was packed and rapidly turning over tables for late arrivals. There's only ever been a relatively limited range of meals on the menu here, and the $85 set price dinner is good value for any similar quality restaurant. One thing that's never changed here is the ethos - they don't do fancy share plates of spectacularly plated experimental food - just very well cooked Italian classics. The fish of the day was superb, but I thought the ragu could have done with something extra. The focaccia was excellent, as was the eggplant parmigiana and the cannoli. However the flourless chocolate cake turned out to be tiny sliver of a magnificent cake, hidden under a pile of unnecessary extras.

Italian and Sons is a popular restaurant in the heart of Civic in Canberra. Service is welcoming and professional. The food was patchy. Awful entree (sardines) that were tasteless and dry and clearly kept in the fridge too long. The pasta was delicious. Serves are small. Oddly they don't offer either bread or salad, both options are great accompaniments to pasta and fairly standard anywhere in Italy.Wine selection is extensive but not very well balanced price wise. Cheapest on the list was around $85, ouch!
