Ambergris Hotel
This venue is an incredible balance of comfortability and elegance. Upon entering I was greeted by a very friendly face, from start to finish I was treated like a long lost friend. Overhearing intermittently suggested wine pairings from the sommelier/owner to other customers. Clearly someone with a wealth of knowledge and passion. I see myself coming here with work mates for a drink and a meal. Or impressing someone with an intimate night out. I had an entree and main both suggested by staff. Couldn't fault the whole experience.

This hotel has such a great vibe! A restored goldrush era building with open fire and huge Chesterfield sofas. The food is very tasty and portions are generous. A highlight was the sourdough bread which was sliced to order and served with dukkah, oil and butter.

Such a beautiful space! The host and owner David, was warm and welcoming, much like the timeless aesthetic of the venue. Beautiful leather banquets, soft lighting, open fireplace and a gorgeous colour scheme. I saw a family group at an early sitting and then, later on, couples enjoying a romantic dinner and all were accommodated nicely in the different dining spaces. The drinks list is impressive, with an excellent list of beers, enticing cocktails and thoughtfully selected spirits. The waiter (Michelle?) was friendly and helpful in choosing from the beer list, and David recommended a delicious New Zealand Pinot Noir to go with our meals. I treated myself with a Moreton Bay Bug skewer that was cooked perfectly, and then followed a main of a generously portioned scotch fillet steak served with potato dauphinoise. Nice crust on the outside and spot-on rare, exactly how I ordered it. Finished with a Macallan Sherry Cask dram and a full belly. I definitely recommend people check it out, as it is the high quality venue Geelong should be proud of. Bravo!

Great find in Geelong. Newly opened Ambergris Hotel in Geelong has great atmosphere after just being completely renovated. We popped in for a drink and something to eat. David and Michelle really are friendly people, the food was great and a good list of drinks. We'll be back to try their meals. Worth a try if you're looking for hotel with a great vibe

An amazing place to dine.The waiter David was excellent, the food and atmosphere was amazing, the drink suggestions were on point.Will definitely come back multiple times, and theres not many places I'd recommend more.

Lovely evening. Staff fantastic, great atmosphere, food delicious, wine and cocktails were yummy. Feels very intimate and cosy. Great value for money. We would definitely recommend.

While the atmosphere and staff were very good, unfortunately the food didn't reach the same standard. The beef Madras was extremely ordinary. The pork was fatty, and the vegetables poorly cooked. Both meals lacked seasoning. Can't recommend.

We had dinner for 2 on Sat may 6th. The ambience (lighting, candle on the table, live music, lovely wine glasses set the mood 10/10 then the superb food, wine and service were excellent. I highly recommend this place if you’re wanting somewhere to dine out, relax or just to have a nice cocktail or drink. A Geelong gem.

Perfect date vibes, although would be great for any intimate dining experience. Perfect atmosphere for an evening meal or drink, dark with candles, stained glass windows and ornate furnishings.We had the Moreton bay bugs and mushroom croquettes for starters. Both were delicious. I would definitely not miss the croquettes in particular (such a nice flavour to them, I wish I had the recipe!)The scotch fillet as a main was also exceptional. We had a side of roasted vegetables which were okay but would benefit from a stronger flavour. Would have also enjoyed the meal arriving to us a little hotter, but this is a small bit of feedback and took little from the eating experience.The service was lovely - attentive, warm and inclusive. Sarah was our server and we couldn't fault her.We didn't much take advantage of the beautiful looking bar as we were driving, but there was clearly a lot to choose from.As it is a fairly recent establishment, there were very few diners alongside us. Take advantage of this while you can because Ambergris is going places!It is a little on the expensive side but wonderful for a special occassion and not by any means unaffordable.We will definitely be back when we're in town and have already recommended the venue to friends and family.

Ambergris is the new kid on the block but it won’t take long for it to be a household name in Geelong. The food was outstanding. The Croquettes, Morton Bay Bug, Pork and Fried Chicken (a booshie Parma) were stand outs. The cocktails were to die for, with The Lara Croft and Salted Caramel Cosmopolitan topping my list. The wine selection was expertly curated and the team were incredibly knowledgeable and offered options that perfectly suited our palettes. Do yourself a favour and book a table before word gets around and you will need to book months in advance!!!
