Penrose State Forest

Great place to visit if you’ve got a day off from Sydney. If you time the day right you probably won’t see another soul around apart from near the toilet block/car park section straight off the highway so make sure you keep driving further in. I just made it up as I went along and followed tracks until I was appropriately lost!In terms of a forest itself the trees themselves here are a lot more denser/thicker together than somewhere like Belanglo state forest where you can pretty much walk in every direction without getting stuck walking between the tres...you can still go off piste at Penrose but I found it a lot more challenging and wild than its nearby neighbour forest.It’s a beautiful forest and the dogs love it. Would recommend once you’ve done Belanglo a few times

Love this place and found a great creek for the dogs to play in. Will definitely be back for camping weekend.

Great forest for foraging. Easy for 2wd. Leaving the forest is a nightmare in peak traffic especially if you need to turn into the opposing lane

Dragon Skin 2023 was hosted here! Great hiking location, where we camped was not too great but was still a great place for a beginner-intermediate hike.

Flora and fauna abundance... 4wd will help but Penrose Forest way will be ok for all kind of cars. You need to have a THING to visit it.

A beautiful location. 4WD is recommended in some of the routes.Head there early for some breathtaking colours. A nice location also for some great rainforest milky ways.

It wasn't mushroom season in winter. Fresh air. Road is rough to drive.

Great place to take your pups with you for a day trip, less than two hours from Sydney.
