Mal's Sewing Machine Repairs

I am astonished at these positive reviews. When I left the sewing machine with him he said it would cost about $200. He also said that it had a 121v motor. I said I knew this but I had an adaptor.He now wants to charge me $600 because he said that without consulting me that he had replaced the motor. I will now have to take legal action. I am sorry about this because he told me his wife had died recently

Mal doesn’t service the machines, he takes it elsewhere. He quoted me $600 for my repair, based on my description of the problem. I was not prepared to pay that, and did not leave my machine there.I have today left my machine at Dulwich Hill Sewing Centre, who agree on Mal’s assessment of the problem, but quote me less than $350.Added after owners response- I actually asked initially if I could just get a quote on the job, happy to pay a service fee. I was told that things were not done that way. I had to accept the full cost with the repair done, which Mal anticipated would be $600, from my description of the problem. And that he wouldn’t know how much it cost till he had picked it up. Was in fact told there was no option of a quote, it was full repair or nothing. So not sure what the owner’s response is about. Did I even go to the same place?

Mal is the sewing machine master. I feel so lucky to have had his knowledgeable help and wisdom to get my Singer Featherweight singing again

Very disappointed!!! We bought a second hand overlocker machine & when it became unthreaded it was complex to re-thread it, as we have never done this before. So we called Bruce to see if he could kindly assist & show us how to re-thread the machine, he said he would for $60.00 to just show us how to thread the machine. We were gobsmacked that he would even charge after purchasing. We asked could we please return the machine, he rudely said NO. We called a local sewing place & they were very kind to assist us & did it free of charge & with a smile!We regret ever going to Mal’s Sewing Machine Repair garage in Drummoyne. I wish we had gone to the 2nd hand sewing shop in Balmain on Darling street to purchase the overlocker.For $50 extra we could of got a better machine & much nicer professional friendlier service.

I can’t believe I was thinking of swapping my almost 30 year old Bernina for a cheaper, inferior machine. Mal persuaded me that these beautiful old Swiss-made machines are worth repairing and she is now purring along like the day I bought her. In these days when everything is so disposable, how lovely to find someone who still believes in quality and the value of workmanship. I’m so glad I found Mal - and so is my old Bernina.

Excellent service! Took my Janome overlocker in for repair & it was fixed within a few days. Mal is so knowledgeable & helpful, would definitely recommend.

We had to return machine as the problem had returned after first service. Mal fixed it while we waited and it is running beautifully now. He knows his stuff. Recommended and I would use Mal again.

I took my Viking Emerald to Mal after making a few mistakes as a novice sewer. He cleaned, fixed and serviced it for me and taught me how to look after it. He's very experienced and knowledgeable and just a delight to talk to. Definitely go to him for repair.

My 20yo sewing machine is working beautifully after the repair Mal is full confidence it will work perfectly that was proved he is right. Will definitely use his service again.
