Interesting place to spend a Sunday, which happens to be the only day it is opened (at this point in time). The free tour is well worth waiting for. Look out for the blackboard near the entrance of the shop/museum for times of the tours. If you are going in summer or a hot day, a hat and sunscreen is a must as a good part of the tour is outdoors. There's not too much shade at parts of the tour but plenty of refreshments can be purchased. Best to stock up before going on a tour! Be prepared for some exhibits/buildings to be closed either due to lack of volunteers on the day or closed for maintenance. The volunteers who manage the place are friendly and full of interesting stories. Please don’t leave without making a donation!

I was very impressed with this place and it's history. The guide on our tour was very knowledgeable on the history of Fort Lytton, especially the protection of Brisbane at the mouth of the river. There are lots of museum exhibits that have been restored and maintained by volunteers, and displayed beautifully. Entry and guided tours are free, but there are donation boxes around the exhibits. I suggest you google Fort Lytton, Brisbane for opening times.

Nice place to explore and know a bit of Brisbane's history. It opens to the public on every Sunday from 10am-4pm. The entry is free and you can join the guided tour which run by the very friendly and knowledgeable volunteers to learn more about the history of the fort.

Only open on a Sunday, this is definitely something I would recommend. They have lovely rolling green grass for a picnic alongside the Brisbane River. Fort Lytton is well maintained and the tour guide was very knowledgeable. As it also has it's own museum, we spent hours roaming around and immersing ourselves in the history.

Great to discover this hidden treasure of Brisbane's history. Even an obliging senior soldier to take your own family photo on arrival with the big gun ! All very well kept, with excellent little museum of well presented artifacts of war time from all sides. Coffee/tea available or take a picnic breakfast as we did. Very clean facilities. Fascinating place of bygone era.
