Decided to pop in partly due the live music but also the place had a nice, dimly lit interior with booths... And also for the rum.Although all the booths were taken we still managed to find a seat at the back which was still nice with candles on each table adding to the atmosphere.Although you could look up the menu via a QR code on the table you still needed to go up to the bar to order.If you are ordering one of the cocktails it would have been nice to have had a picture...I say this as my wife's Rumball in the jungle" looked good on paper but the end drink had almost a Rubik's cube sized ice cube shoehorned into a whiskey Glass and then stamped with a logo...with the tasty ingredients almost secondary... Two shots of the mixture that fits in around the I've cube.... Was the ice cube the highlight? My wife would have preferred more actual drink for the price but hey

Amazing little bar. The quality of music artists that they have playing live over the weekend was insane, combined with amazing bar staff and a great selection of rums made for a fantastic little bar.

Came in and was told drinks machine wouldn’t be ready for at least an hour. This was 9:30pm and we had been here for an hour at this point. Both the female and male bartender were incredibly rude and standoffish.Walk out if you’re going to be served by an older woman and dark haired gentleman with a moustache and beard. Live music was good

The Rum Diary is easily the best rum bar in Melbourne, which itself has a frankly ludicrous selection of fine quality rum drinking establishments. So this is no mean feat. It may not be the biggest, it may not be the loudest (thank God) but what it does have is soul, and plenty of it. The staff are all fantastic, well informed and unbelievably patient (and trust me, I've definitely pushed it), so come here if you are sick of the artifice of so many cocktail bars - rum or otherwise - and fancy relaxing with a gang of people who love their craft.
