Alfred Thomas Memorial
A centrepiece at cross-paths in memory of a distinguished resident of Toowoomba who sadly drowned in Sydney harbour after falling off a boat. His fame came from his works as a supervising engineer on the Central and Eastern Railway in the 1870s.Originally erected in the town for £100, the monument was relocated in the gardens in the 1890s. Changes to the monument then made were reversed in the early 2000s. The monument is an important example of community memory and pride in the Victorian era.The cannon in front of the monument is unrelated and disfigures the line of sight to the principal facade of the monument.
