Dirty Girl Designs - aka Sue - gave us thoroughly professional service from when I first met with her til the finished product - a pretty and functional small courtyard. Sue project-managed in a hands-on way, coordinating the trades; and for such a small space there were a few - concreter, landscaper, tiler - and each team we dealt with were also professional, prompt and thorough as well as thoroughly pleasant into the bargain. I have also found Dirty Girl to be amenable after the fact when I have asked for advice on other garden matters.Carmel - Merewether

Sue did an amazing job designing a very detailed landscape plan for my four townhouse development. She's meticulous, doesn't miss any details, ensures that what is being submitted is 100 percent compliant, and meets her commitments. Sue prefers to use Australian native plans, which is perfect because they look great, they are hardy, easy to maintain, and they don't cost an arm and a leg.

I engaged Dirty Girl Designs to design and project manage the landscaping of my courtyard last year (2018) and I am exhausted. I had notification of works commencing in my courtyard less than 24 hours before they commenced. I had little time to consider the cost estimate proposed, and wasn't advised that certain features would cost extra (i.e. garden bed capping). My budget was overrun and very rare updates were provided on the status of my budget and that I was nearing cost overrun. I expressed concern about the cost of certain items and was assured that my budget could accommodate. When raising concerns, they were often met with unnecessary defensiveness. My courtyard is still unfinished due to an ongoing dispute regarding expensive tiles that were delivered in a light grey colour and not black as ordered. Dirty Girl Designs are claiming that they are the correct colour and once a 'special' sealant is applied the colour will be apparent. I wasn't advised that such an enhancement sealer was to be applied at all (the cost of application and the special sealer product is more than the typical one coat sealant one would expect to apply, but Sue is excellent at leaving out these details causing my budget to be further overrun).Further, it took Sue (who holds herself out as a landscaping design professional) approx. four weeks to ascertain that a colour enhancing sealer was required to make the marble delivered turn black.Postscript: Also, my statements are not defamatory as asserted by Sue as I have documentary proof of all of the matters stated in this review. Sue has rather imputed from her review that I am a liar, and as a lawyer with 10 years experience (feel free to review my LinkedIn profile) and an unblemished reputation (and having given numerous fair and positive Google reviews) she has made a defamatory imputation. This is not by any means a vexatious review. It reflects my terrible experience with Dirty Girl Designs, and reflects a recent experience unlike her other reviews.

In late 2016 we finally had enough of our ancient, boring red brick courtyard and decided to engage a landscape designer to help us in this important project. After some discussions with Sue we decided to engage Dirty Girl Designs. From that point on the whole process was very professional and well managed. Sue clearly communicated how the staged process to completion would proceed. After assessing our likes, dislikes, budget etc we were so impressed to see her creative ideas and concepts on paper. Much better than we had envisaged. After some tweaking and discussion of various options we settled on a plan that did extend our initial budget by quite a bit however there was no pressure from Sue to do so. All costing was clearly itemised and approved by us. We also decided to use Sue’s recommended landscaping contractor Bay and Beyond. We are so glad we did as Mat Thomas and his team were fantastic to work with and did an amazing job. First class operators and good blokes to top it off. We now have a beautiful courtyard that is functional, value-adding and impresses all who see it.

Sue worked magic on our barren boring small backyard. Her insight and expertise was invaluable. We are now blessed with a yard we are proud of and use daily. Sue included a swim spa, dining and lounge areas and a tepenyaki bbq that is also a fire pit and coffee table. We can now use our yard all year round. The tradesmen were punctual friendly and very professional. Couldn’t ask for more.

I engaged Sue in 2015 to design and build my garden in Mayfield. The house I had purchased some months before was a new build and as such the backyard was a barren soulless space. I didn’t know where to start! From the fist sketch Sue drew I was captivated by her design. The construction of the garden swiftly followed and due to an unforeseen weather event some drainage problems became apparent. Sue responded immediately to all my phone calls and emails and followed up with numerous onsite inspections. She went above and beyond the call of duty and she couldn’t have been more supportive or professional. She understood this was more than just a garden to me. My garden is now a lush paradise with a mixture of ornamental plants and lovely organic vegetables and herbs. It is constantly evolving and is full of life with beneficial insects and a few naughty ones but we all live in harmony. My garden is a constant source of joy to me. Sue’s design made a small space seem 10 times bigger...I’m still not sure how she did that! Sue orchestrated the construction from start to finish. She is meticulous, professional, talented, trustworthy and knowledgeable. Using Dirty Girl Designs was transformative and I couldn’t recommend them highly enough.

Sue was fantastic from the start: from her warm manner I just knew she understood what I wanted in a garden. All the details were beautifully laid out and meshed in so well with our home that the garden design was amazing: matching in the sandstone to the house piers, the bluestone pavers that matched the original front steps of our heritage home: it was all there. Sue was a fantastic project manager too: made all the difference trying to run the redesign from interstate- I knew whatever she was organising would be quality. I thoroughly recommend Dirty Girl Designs!

I have always found Sue to be utterly professional in her dealings with me from the initial consultation to the final fruition of the garden. Sue listens to what you want and produces a garden that is exactly what you need. Sue is supportive and patient and takes the stress out of dealing with tradespeople.
