Rottnest Island Authority

It's an idyllic holiday island but the summer holiday booking system is beyond a joke. Bookings open about 14 months out and sell out within hours. The phone lines ring out and the web booking portal is amateur at best. Bring back the ballot. At least it felt like you got a fair go.

Rottenest is magic. The staff at the tourist info Friday evening should not work in hospitality and improve heir basic manners leave alone helpfulness. Saturday 1 Dec 2018 morning staff were lovely though.

Staying for a week for the first time in years. Such a great holiday destination and so many improvements. Though the Rotto brand could be improved more still. For example, there are a lot more vehicles here than there used to be. It would be terrific to see only electric vehicles including buses. It’s not great riding along behind a diesel belching bus. And having a very strong focus on sustainability is good but all businesses here should be required or at least strongly encouraged to be more so than what I have seen over the past week. A very “green” focused island holiday would be a very good marketing plus too.

Rottnest island is beautiful, but it's all about the quokkas! :) Take the ferry from Freemantle for the easiest way to get there. Boats are fairly regular and allow plenty of time for exploring the island by foot or by bicycle. There's also a bus that goes around, but we didn't use that, so can't comment. The island is definitely worth a visit.

Clean and spacious room but a bit pricey

Well the aesthetic surroundings are second to none, yet when you travel to the pub you are struck by the clientele that seems to be still within thier childhood. Alas the beauty overtakes the teenage drunkedness

Great variety of accommodation

Fabulous holiday destination but the reservations system is a throwback to a pre-digital era. Year on year it collapses under the load of people trying to book summer holidays. The RIA continues to pretend that it has a system in place when it would be more honest to admit that it isn't built to cope with realistic peak traffic and just take it offline instead of having it crash on opening. Every time. Without fail.

Fantastic ranger Luke on the Rottnest island who is so helpful, kind and extraordinary. Luke goes above and beyond his job. We booked a tour with bike renting through a travel agent. Right In the middle of the island, one of the pedals fell off and we couldn't ride. After calling the phone numbers of the travel agent, the Islands enquiry line, which all said not connected, we tried the ranger line. Luke picked up and phone very quickly and helped us straight away. Within 10 minutes, Luke arrived and helped to upload one of the broken bike and checked if we all needed to be brought back. On the way back, Luke saw the disappointment written all over my face and knowing that we paid nearly $300 to the Island all the way from Melbourne, Luke took the initiative to show me the island and explained to me everything he can while he drove me back. Luke specifically took a detour to do the best he can to ensure my spirits were not dampened to enjoy the spectacular views of the Island. Luke is not only so knowledgeable but also extremely kind hearted and passionate about his job. Outstanding Luke who definitely helped to make the best day of our whole trip and make our memory of Rottnest Island amazing (apart from the Quokkas). Thank you very much Luke.
