Mr Bakewell represented me in a protracted and convoluted matter where I engaged in the Australian Catholic Church's internal professional standards complaint process called, ironically, Towards Healing". The matter involved grievous historical sexual abuse. The Catholics promised the resolution of an incredibly harmful series of events using the principles of restorative justice that we saw highlighted in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that brought to light the evils of Apartheid in South Africa. The Catholic "machine" unexpectedly engaged their formidable legal team as the matter was reaching its conclusion. Suddenly the matter became adversarial.
