Over the past few months I have been in and out of several hospitals , both regionally and in the city and as both a private patient and a public patient.I would like to say that the Bairnsdale hospital is definitely the best including all members of staff and areas of work. The hospital has a cleaning service second to none where everything is cleaned and sanitised every day. The cleaning staff were delightful and went out of their way to assist in any way whilst still being professional. The meals were much better than those that I had been given at the private hospital I was in. Also a cooked breakfast every morning. Unheard of in a public hospital. And when I received it, it was hot including the toast. The meal staff including the morning, afternoon and supper staff were really lovely and friendly. The supper lady knew I loved my jelly and she would go out of her way to get me two jelly’s every night. The nursing staff were amazing and they took care to give care and I felt well looked after at all times. I never had to wait long to have my buzzer answered(less than a minute) and they all were so lovely and always answered my incessant questions. They were truly angels of care. The doctors were prepared to listen as they said that I knew my own body better than they did. I felt very confident in talking to them. They even rang me after my discharge to tell me that my blood results had shown something amiss and that they would arrange for a script to be filled out for me to pick up. On another instance a lovely lady doctor came to visit me on a Sunday afternoon to tell me that I needed a iron infusion.I had to wait for oxygen to arrive before being discharged and the oxygen couldn’t be delivered for a few days. The hospital was happy for me to stay until it arrived. The pharmacy was ever so helpful and made sure that I understood everything she was trying to explain. She even had all my medications done up the day before so I wouldn’t have to wait for hours. Thank you for that.Overall it was the best hospitalisation I have ever experienced. Thank you one and all at the Bairnsdale hospital. You are all ever so amazing. You all deserve five out of five stars. You made me well and spoilt me in the process. I can’t thank you all enough for how you cared for me.RegardsBeverley Knowles

Having just read some of the adverse reviews about Bairnsdale Regional Health Service I feel prompted to put my review in. My husband had a couple of emergency admissions to Casualty last year. I am a retired nurse who worked at this facility for many many years. I have nothing but praise for the efficient, caring staff in the casualty department before he was airlifted to Melbourne hospitals. Thankfully he survived two major operations, and unfortunately for him is now an inpatient due to another problem. I say unfortunate not because I am worried about his care, just that he doesn’t like being in hospital no matter where it is. To address the complaints about nursing care, please don’t think going further towards Melbourne will give you better care. My husband received pressure sores on each heel from his time in The Alfred hospital. One of which is still having treatment five months later. And this was after constantly telling staff his heels were sore. I don’t know what has happened to nursing care, I am old school, hospital trained and it seems the patient comfort aspect is not as important as the documentation. As patients you have a voice, so if there is a problem ask your nurse, sometimes a reminder is all that is necessary. I still feel we are very lucky to have BRHS and the staff that work there.

I have never known so many people come out of a hospital to then need life saving help in other facilities. A full blown look into the practices needs to be done here. Scary stuff.

I found myself in the ED and ‘short stay’ department of Bairnsdale Hospital after a bit of a medical emergency and while there was the wait time, poking and measuring, and the standard things that go along with a hospital visit, the staff and care was very attentive to me while I awaited patient transport. I am very grateful for the care I received.

I was so disappointed and disgusted today I went in for a colanostraphy did everything they asked but this one nurse had to single me out for all to hear humiliated me for a mistake for information themselves advice me to do and then go behind the counter only to humiliate me evan more and expected me to stay and be there dartboard for that I was so ashamed I had to get up without the procedure and walk out I didn't feel I was in a hospital I felt like I was on a hook in an ambitious how disrespectful some people in the industry can be in so hurt you have no idea

Disgusting!!! My daughter waited for hours to only be given panadole and sent home after having a 39 temp, vomiting, painful, inflamed throat, sore tummy, freezing etc One doctor was lovely but was over ridden by a doctor that barely looked at her!!! We ended up at local doctors as her condition worsened. She was treated for Step A and an ear infection with her body going down hill fast!!!

Shocking treatment from both the hospital ED and Latrobe Valley Mental Health clinic. My son was with me and the clinic had told him someone would meet us at the hospital but noone showed up. After about 3 hours I advised the admin clerk I wasn't waiting any longer and was going home. About 10-15mins later I got a call from hospital asking why I had snuck out and to come back. I told them I wasn't coming back. Next my son received a call telling him if I didn't come back voluntarily they would send the police to bring me back. At around 11pm the police did come to do a welfare check but had no intention of taking me back to the hospital. I should of twigged when they said they would meet me at the hospital and not their office in Macleod Street that they had alterior motives. So wish I still had private health cover.
