Streaky Bay Hospital

I had the absolute pleasure of doing my nursing placement here back in 2008.As I came all the way from as far as you can go before you start to head to Tasmania in Victoria. The hospital put me up for a small weekly fee in the overnight, out of town, nursing quarter's in the Aged Care Nursing Home right next door.I got to enjoy the afternoons and weekends exploring the great, friendly, little town. And enjoying the ocean right on my doorstep.The hospital is staffed by a dedicated team of nurses who welcome you into the emergency room and assess you, while they either wait for the doctor to come. Or begin treatment and admit you if required.If admission need's to be in a major hospital, transport by air generally, is arranged for in Adelaide.The cook, cook's fresh daily nutritious meals. Staff are given a breakfast and a choice of 2 freshly made snacks too. I would often take my lunch back to my unit to have for tea.There is a small ICU, private and shared rooms with shared toilet facilities. As well as an aged care area with both single and shared rooms with shared bathroom facilities for them.There is also a communal lounge room with ocean views. Along with a door that opens up to the outside veranda for the ocean or garden area. There's also a indoor garden with seating.There are 2 private rooms with TV and, it used to be a VCR (I'm sure that they have upgraded that) along with movie's and such to watch. These rooms also have a bar fridge and tea and coffee making facilities.All patients are treated exceptionally well and wrist bands are not used unless they are extremely busy.Minor surgical procedures are preformed 5 days a week in the Out Patients Clinic. Other surgeries are sometimes performed.There's also a Wound Clinic at the hospital.The Medical Centre is right next door.

No doctors at hospital most times

I don’t know how to describe my experience here but my partner and I hate hospitals and we had so much fun and received some of the best help in health care I’ve ever had. Scott and Bio were so fun, caring , entertaining and gave me undivided attention. I usually get blown off but this experience was so so good and I am grateful.
