I have been with START BJJ for just shy of a year now. From the very first lesson Damus, Rona and the rest of the students at START have been welcoming, supportive and encouraging. Damus is a natural teacher and has a great way of breaking down complex moves into their basic elements, ensuring improvement and mastery in no time. His passion and enthusiasm for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is palpable and I believe that this contributes to the awesome atmosphere at the academy.I can genuinely say that joining this academy has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I cannot recommend this wonderful club or sport highly enough.

Our son has been a member here for over a year & we can’t recommend these guys enough!! Family run company by very skilled, passionate people. Our son has learned many life skills, made friends & is getting alot of extra weekly exercise. We have also made friends as parents with some really great people. If you are looking for an after school activity for your kids of any age check these guys out you won’t be disappointed. 100% recommended!

As an adult on the autism spectrum i highly recommend START as a great place to learn. The teachers have in depth knowledge of their craft and are happy to answer a wide range of questions. The learning environment is safe and accepting and I've found my strength and knowledge increasing within just a few weeks of attending.

My daughter has been practised for a year and still passionate for every class, Rona and Damus are really great professional coaches, very patient, engaged and encouraging, also the girls only classes are such a supportive environment!

Top notch instruction from Damus and Rona in a family-friendly atmosphere. There is plenty of opportunity to train in different aspects of BJJ. Myself, my wife and daughter train there and the place has been life changing. I wish we had joined sooner.

Start BJJ Tasmania offers high quality, professional training in a friendly, personal environment. Damus is a very patient, and technically knowledgeable coach with excellent teaching skills. My 9 year old and I both thoroughly enjoy the classes here.

Davina loves jiu jitsu at the academy ! These are her words …“I love dodgeball, sometimes I win , sometimes I lose .. I also love my “ninjas” ( rona and damus) they are the best because they help me .Highly recommend !

My bjj experienced kids recently changed to this area and joined Start. Great kids sessions, the regular kids are all well trained and a credit to their belts. Highly recommend the coaches energy, knowledge, patience and safety.

Start Jiu Jitsu offers a fun, family friendly and safe environment to learn self defence.No kicking and punching action was what made me curious about enrolling my young child at the first place and I was so impressed at so many level.The coaches always show professionalism, yet patient, caring and welcoming.I highly recommend this business.

I could not recommend a better place to get your child into martial arts. Damos is really great with the kids, they look up to him and its great to see the kids show respect and above all, have a great experience.
