Big Red Sand Dune
Beautiful place. Just to go, see the sunset and have nibblies on the top. Took a bit to get up, but we had a camper trailer. Make sure to use a walkie talkie so u don’t crash into anyone, u can’t see any cars until u get to the other side, and then it’d be too late.

Beautiful place to visit and explore. A helicopter flight a must do to experience the vastness looking out to the Simpson desert

Big Red Sand Dune
The iconic “first” Sandhills heading west into the Simpson desert. Supposedly the highest in the desert and the one that gives you bragging rights when you drive over it.The place where they hold the most remote music festival in the world. The Schoolies for the over 50,s - The Big Red Bash. July each year.

Big Red Sand Dune
The trip out to the Simpson Desert from Birdsville is well worth the half day excursion.Try Little Red for the sunrise and Big Red for the experience.Don't bother with Big Red without 4wd, low range and 15psi tyre pressure with good clearance.

Somewhat less crowded to what we're used to - fewer tourists due to water over the QAA Line? Great sunset photos.

Don't need a 4wd to get to the foot of both big and little red sand dune. Can walk to the top for fantastic views all around.

Big Red Sand Dune
The road was closed and a detour was made that we believe led us to the back of Big Red. We got up no worries from the back. There was a road closed sign on the other side of Big Red, so we had to come back the way we came but did struggle on a couple from the main side but we got back up and over. Only one other car came while we were there. Water tanker was wetting the detour while we were there.

Great place to have a morning cup of your own fresh coffee and watch the sun rise. Make sure you take your beanie it's a bit cool up there!
