They are very helpful people even if they can't source what you need they are quick to offer alternatives to help you. Small and very busy business is always a good business. Would choose Penrose over a big chain company anytime.

I went to Penrose Automotive for a replacement engine in my 2006 VE COMMODORE. They were very friendly helpful and professional. Dont know why there are negative reviews. I would guess it says more about the people complaining than the company.I will be returning for my regular services and any other work that may be needed. Great service from the receptionist to the boss.Highly recommended them. Great work and thanks again.

I have had quite a poor run with this mechanic and have added it to my do not go to list.First issues that I had were on a vehicle that they failed to locate the problem causing the vehicle to over heat. First replacing the thermostat, 100km later the vehicle was in the red again, further diagnoses led to there being a blocked radiator. This could have been an expensive bill if it had done further damage to the motor! Then the new radiator was installed loosely and the radiator could travel on its mounts only narrowly missing the fan.Second vehicle was presented with a minor leak from the diff. They 'fixed' the problem and 15km later it began to gush oil out again. When I returned they said it was due to an aftermarket seal and that they would put a genuine seal in. 2000km later the seal went again. Their prognoses was that it now needs a full diff rebuild with a cost of roughly $1200 on a 2011 model vehicle....... So I took it to a new mechanic who first noticed that Penrose had in fact lied when telling me it was a genuine seal, it was in fact a cheap nock off seal not designed to be used in the diff. Because it did not seal properly water has gotten in and has actually caused rust to form on the output shaft. Now at worst I would have to replace the shaft end where the seal mates to, which at the new mechanic was quoted as a $150 part, compared to Penrose who claim to charge $1200 to have to fully rebuild the diff. This I find funny as they have just dug a hole yet again lying not only about putting in a faulty seal risking the lift of the diff, but also wrongly diagnosing the problem again and on 2 vehicles and wanting to drastically rip me off! They are also very happy to recommend that you do things extra on top of your service requirements. Stating my power steering fluid system needed to be flushed out and cleaned. Well I had that tested else where and its still not due saving me up to $300. They also gave me a list of other things that I chose to do, I now wonder what I got ripped off with and if they actually did things that they charged me for.Over all I would highly recommend that you avoid this mechanic due to frequent lies, over charging and them failing to deliver the service that they are charging for.

While repairing the coolant and heater pipes on a Daewoo Matiz, they removed the dashboard cover (and lost one of the plastic parts), and unplugged the air bag system wires, setting off the engine computer airbag light, when I collect the car, turned around and went back - they couldn't reset the computer system, even after another 2 visits. Complained to Consumer Affairs, and they said take it to a Holden Dealer to get evidence (it going to cost more than what the cars worth!).

I found these guys 6 years ago when I lived local, immediately I found they provided a top job, were honest, reliable, reasonably priced and very friendly. My first vehicle was a Barina which needed a timing belt replacement, they were at least $200 cheaper than all competitors and even called me a week later asking to double check that they had tightened a bolt to correct torque setting (if they hadn't called and something did go bang then most would have been none the wiser) it was done correctly too. I have taken two other vehicles there for jobs and have always found them to be reasonably priced and great workmanship.I now live in Scarborough but will take my new Patrol all the way to Kelmscott for their work because I am very untrusting of most mechanics. See you Monday Penrose :)

Took my diesel car in to them for a service and specifically told them the car had a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) in the exhaust and needed specific oil for this.Picked the car up paid money and asked them about the DPF. they said the oil they used is fine they service all their diesels with the same oil and have never had a problem" then in the same sentence said "we highly recommend a DPF additive $80 as we have many cars coming back with blocked DPF filters" ?????I got them to write the name of the oil they had put into my car on the receipt then called the (fortron) oil rep who specifically stated that "the oil they use is not compatible with a DPF"The standard oil they use in services (oil they put in my car) is classified "SJ" A quick Google search will tell you this oil should not be used in vehicles later than 2001 !!!I ended up changing the oil myself to the correct one.Anyone who has a car serviced with them should be very worried. And yes stuck an advertising sticker to my car which took me 20 minutes to peel off."

Didn't carry out the work I paid for.I was advised by this business that my rear wheel bearings needed to be replaced (among other things), to fix excessive road noise and vibrations. I dutifully booked my car in to get the bearings replaced and had new tyres fitted to fix the issue - nearly $800 all up. Weeks later I still have the same noise and vibrations. Also a burning smell and wobbling from rear wheels coming from back of car. They clearly didn't fix the problem and have defrauded me of $500 while also putting my family at risk by signing off on their faulty workmanship. Will have to pay twice for this work by taking my car to a competent mechanic that does their job properly. Lesson learned - avoid this place at all costs. If I could give zero stars I would.

Excellent service, reliable, honest & affordable! Mark is first mechanic who has explained & shown me the issues before fixing my car, which I appreciated immensely. I don't live locally but am willing to drive all the way there knowing my car is in very capable hands. He's the first mechanic I've found that I can trust with my car & that I won't be ripped off by. Thanks Mark! :D
