Getting here can be a bit of a journey. You have to drive hard on the winding road. When you arrive, look for traces of the old days.Trekking and interesting sightseeing. If you go down to the beach along the way, you can meet gentle waves and a beach road!

This is a self guided site. It is a good idea to take a photo of the site map before your walk. I'm glad we did - it guided us through all the individual areas.Located in a stunning area, it is hard to believe its' horrible history. But history it has, and I was honoured to be able to view it for myself. The site is free to enter. There are wheelchair accessible toilets in the main carpark. You will need to take your own food and water/ drinks as there aren't any for sale onsite. It is the perfect place for a picnic.Coal Mines Historic site is located on the Tasman Peninsula and the roads are all sealed coming in from Dunalley.

Definitely worth the visit if you're near the area! Lots of walks to do here. We came on Christmas day and basically had the place to ourselves. The view along the coastline is absolutely gorgeous. There are some insects flying around though so I'd recommend bringing insect repellent. We also saw a wild echidna along the way.

What a wonderful history walk, main shaft, convict accommodation, military quarters, warf, etc, not a big walk.Give yourself a couple of hours, at least. However, it can be a bit cold in winter.Toilets at entry, no food or water, so take them with you.No fee.

Extra ordinary place for tracking and enjoying the nature, the journey might be a bit long because of the roads are not perfect enough. The coal mine is the first operational mine. There are 3 lookout walking area, somewhere between 45 mins to 1 and half hours. I went with the smallest one, it took me me around 50 mins, nice, peaceful.

Well worth the visit if you're interested in convict history and ruins. The view to the coast is also spectacular. The solitary cells here are still intact and quite spooky. Watch your head when you enter and exit, mischievous spirits may just give you a push! Lots of walks you can do in the area which are longer.

Great place for the family to visit to see and experience how life was. All the ruins are open to the public with nice walks along the bay to the actual mines
